Not at all. Determining "how" is a relatively straight forward process of observation and experimentation, yet it provides little peace to the soul. How am I here? Sperm fertilized egg, nine months later....POOF! The much more interesting and meaningful question, however, is "why" am I here? What is the purpose for my life?

Wow! That's a damn good question!

If I understand you correctly, "why" questions address mysteries for which we will likely never have an answer whereas "how" questions are scientific inquiries. Do I have that right?

If so, one of my favorite intellectuals, Noam Chomsky, has stated that there are "mysteries" for which humanity will never have an answer (like the existence of god) and thus, are not even worth contemplating because they are distractions from very real problems which we might actually be able to do something about.

Generally, yes, but not absolutely. Sometimes "why" can make "how" unnecessary. You can spend a lot of time and money figuring out how to accomplish something, and sometimes you could avoid that effort by asking why and finding that there is no good reason. Thus you free up resources to work on a how that actually has a reason.

So true--me and my dad were just talking about that. God often does some really crazy things, but who are we, the clay, to question Him--the Potter...
We just gotta' Trust and Obey :-) We can speculate, but we're so far below God--His ways are sooooo much above our ways, it's ridiculous to try and figure out the why sometimes.

No.
We may never know HOW god created us, but we DO know WHY.
(John 3:16) “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.
He created us to enjoy the earth. It is US who have messed up.
A GOOD, wealthy man likes to use it to make others happy.
A MISERABLE wealthy man just keeps it all to himself.
God is certainly NOT miserable, so He wanted us to be happy.
All the troubles we have experienced have been caused by Satan and by our own stupidity.

No, I don't. I very much want to know why. (and for that matter who, when, where, whether, and whence)

Is it more important to ask "how did you ask this question" rather than "why did you ask this question"?
