Like in my last question, when I asked about "fear" some girl told me the hebrew meaning is "respect." Why not have a bible, especially since it is a translation, where things mean what they mean?

If you did that, it wouldn't be so easy to pervert the scripture for their own vile purposes.

It needs to be open to interpretation so that people can use passages to argue for things like Slavery and against things like Same sex marriages.

It does mean what it says, but Christians want to live under the delusion that there is this weird, invisible being in the sky that loves them and cares for them and looks out for their best interests. To do this, they have to pretend that "fear" is the same thing as "respect," when in reality no such meaning was intended--if it was, then that is the word that would have been used.

A book like the Bible hasn't had the staying power it has had by being easy to understand and up front. Use that brain.

Alucard, when you read the bible you have to remember when it was written.....thousands of years ago. Therefore, you have to take into consideration the language of the time. Yes, it's been translated into more modern language. But you can understand it....if you want to. God says exactly what He means. Just come to Him humbly...if I may suggest that...and He will show you His answers.

It does. However God said that he would 'cloak' the truth and hide it from powerful, pseudo intellectuals, and reveal it to children. In order to understand what the bible is saying you have to be ready to accept it like a child.

The Bible says what it means to say.

You can read it and interpret the meanings for yourself.

You can take the interpretation of another person as your own, or you can discard the other person's interpretation.
