PARIS (AFP) - The fossilised remains of an amphibian which lived more than 245 million years ago have been found in Antarctica, suggesting that the climate during much of the Triassic era was remarkably balmy.

The 60-centimetre (24-inch) piece of skull was teased out of thick sandstone at Fremouw Peak in the Transantarctic Mountains, just six degrees short of the South Pole.

Palaeontologists in Europe and the United States have identified the beast as a Parotosuchus, a two-metre-long (6.5-feet) giant salamander-like predator that lived 40 million years before the first dinosaurs, inhabiting lakes and rivers.

A member of the Temnospondyl group, Parotosuchus was covered in a scaly skin, unlike the smooth skin of modern-day amphibians, and probably moved with an eel-like motion in the water.

Previous Parotosuchus remains have been found in Germany, Kazakhstan, Russia and South Africa -- until now the most southerly part of their range.

Parotosuchus lived in an era when Africa and Antarctica are believed to have joined together in a supercontinent called Pangea.

The researchers believe the new specimen shows that conditions were mild enough in the late Early or Middle Triassic period to let a cold-blooded creature live near Pangea's southern margin, seasonally at least.

The paper is authored by palaeontologists at the Burke Museum in Seattle, Washington state; at France's National Museum of Natural History; and at the State Museum for Natural History in Stuttgart, Germany.

It appears in the latest issue of the Journal of Vertebrate Palaeontology.

I guess that they are making up lies, eh? Just for fun?

I believe you are not religious man and do not believe the bible as well as believe God.

How did you come to know about an amphibian who live more than 245 million years ago.? and about the 60 centemeters (24 inch)piece of skull and it has been identified in Europe and the United States as Porotosuchus.

You may say that you have read it from a book and because you have read it, you believe the truthfulness of the same and that is the reason why you believe on it. Okay?

As religious man, believe in God, believe in his teachings ;and believe the word of God because I have read it on a book which is called the scripture or Bible and I believe the truthfulness of the same and it is the reason why I believe it.

How about readfing also the bible to make you believe what was written on it like of what you have read on the book regarding what you have stated a true facts about the existence of amphibian and other living things during the olden days, however I also believe those facts but still I believe God and the bible.

What is wrong to be believing on God at the same time believing the works of science. There is no difference I think. So never mind us on our belief of God. Do not philosophized us on our belief of God, if you don't, its okay.

Yes that's right, so, these people found some fossils that are of some undisclosed length of time old when these animals were around, so, this just shows that God created many different types of animals that have died and have become extinct over a period of time, Glory should be given to God for such Creations and not to people that find them and try to discredit God with these, by twisting things to make themselves sound glorious. Many species have become extinct in our times too, and our great grandchildren will dig them up also, and say:this is 5000million years of evolution give or take 500 million, who's counting after that amount of yeasrs anyway? even though the speices died only 50 years or so before they were born, and then try and use this to discredit our Creator. Do you know every corner of the Earth, and every part of the Sea? What creatures are in them? You may find the skull bone of a Dog that may have died 60 years ago and may say it died 60 million years ago, carbon dating is not very accurate at the best of times, and who is able to say that it had been accurate at any time, were they there at the time to be able to confirm it's accuracy?Yet the person who has been arround at that time, you will not listen to.You do have that choice, of course.

This passage below is taken from bible. It is God speaking to a man named Job here. Though we dont know much about creation and existence other than recent findings, there is God who created it. I know for sure because I dint know Him before but now I cannot deny at all, because just as Jesus said that He will send Holy Spirit after He went to heaven, I received it to my amazement and surprise. I realize now that there so much more to ever comprehend God and no man ever can. There is more truth to Jesus and His teachings. But when u take effort to seek God, I am sure God will be happy to reveal Himself to you. Please see below that God speaks about a creature He made:

15 Look at the monster Behemoth; F71 I created him and I created you. He eats grass like a cow, 16 but what strength there is in his body, and what power there is in his muscles! 17 His tail stands up like a cedar, and the muscles in his legs are strong. 18 His bones are as strong as bronze, and his legs are like iron bars. 19 The most amazing of all my creatures! Only his Creator can defeat him. 20 Grass to feed him grows on the hills where wild beasts play. F72 21 He lies down under the thorn bushes, and hides among the reeds in the swamp. 22 The thorn bushes and the willows by the stream give him shelter in their shade. 23 He is not afraid of a rushing river; he is calm when the Jordan dashes in his face. 24 Who can blind his eyes and capture him? Or who can catch his snout in a trap? Job 40

the earth is going on being 7000 yrs of age...global warming is also real. The end is near regardless so prepare to meet your Creator, His name is Jesus Christ.

He came to earth a little over 2000 yrs ago (according to your calendar this is 2007 A.D as opposed to B.C meaning BEFORE CHRIST...he's the only man to ever divide time..literally!)

If you search the Scriptures you will find that 4000 yrs prior to Christ first coming.. the world was created. It simple mathematics... (From Adam to Noah to Abraham to David to Christ.....the bible has genealogies to help you figure that out)

I could spell it all out for you but that would be too easy for you all to dismiss so lets see who will research this for themselves. Also to the one person who said the were a Christian and believed in evolution....NEWS FLASH: YOU'RE NOT A CHRISTIAN..you dont believe the Word of God..therefore you dont believe in Christ. For the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us! John 1:1-14

Please search the scriptures for yourselves and stop believing the words of man and learn the Word of God.

I'd personally like to believe that we killed off the dinosaurs with our ingenuity as a species, but that seems rather compelling an argument as well.

Of course, given that a stone castle will crumble into dust if left unattended for a few hundred years, a fossil lasting for hundreds of millions of years is quite doubtful. I'd say this amphibian was far more recent than that, given how powerful a force time (and erosion) is.

Now, had this fossil been found preserved in a tar pit, for instance, I'd jump behind it 100%.

in case you have faith Jesus, interior the gospels he describes the condition of a guy in hell. He says that he's thirsty and that he's tormented in this flame. i do no longer faux to be attentive to precisely what "this flame" is created from., yet I specific do no longer in ordinary terms like the belief of being in torment. Your hung up on the technicalities of ways this is achieved. in case you think of Jesus is a liar and a faux then you certainly've no longer something to agonize approximately, yet whilst he replaced into telling the reality approximately torment then It does not quite matter , physique, no physique or in spite of---count style me out.

I love these 'arguments'. They think up all these crazy ideas to disprove evolution, and they think by disproving evolution, it proves creationism. But then when asked to dispute a fact that proves creationism, their response is "it doesn't matter that there is proof of your point of view." Make up your mind people!!!!

When god created the earth- the bible says it was in 6 days-but reading old writing sometimes misconstues things. I went to a private religious University- and we talked about this. Gods time is not the same as our time. one day could have been millions of years- explaining why we find dinosaur bones ect.

So, what's with the generalization that all religious folk refute evolution? I know I don't refute it, I'm religious.
