Cheap, simple ideas I can do around the house are best but I would love to hear about big projects for the city, province or country as well. Thanks.

Reduce use of energy- low-energy light bulbs or LEDs, reduce the temperature of your hot water tank, avoid using air conditioning or set it to a higher temperature, use a bicycle, insulate the house properly, keep you car tuned up and keep the tyre pressures high-ish, cook with the lid on the pot, simmer gently.

Reduce consumption- those products take energy and processing to make. Keep things longer, recycle, avoid buying stuff you don't need. Plant trees. Drink water rather than commercial drinks (packaging, transport, refrigeration).

Ultimately, get off the power grid. With insulation, some solar cells, solar hot water, a wind turbine or water wheel, and with passive solar architecture (ie, a house designed to save energy) you can end up using very little, or no, power.

A most important thing to do it to write to politicians and newspapers, learn everything you can so you can argue credibly, and demand something be done. Don't accept 'but the economy will be rooned' arguments.

Turn off a light bulb
Walk to a place instead of driving
Look for energy star labels on appliances
check that box on your electric bill that says you will pay a little more for wind generated energy (in areas where this option is available)
Look into alternative energy vehicles
Plant a tree - heck, plant a couple of hundred trees
(we buy live trees at Christmas and plant them in the spring)

if forrest are being exchanged for ashalt, concrete and desserts
what is gonna keep this planet habitable for us

Global warming is a very complex collection of many effects

climate change is caused partly by desertification ,and most desertification is caused by man
the thinner ozone layer helps to speed this up.and this is caused mainly by air polution ,also as a result of mans actions like burning coal to create electricity, and for this your ideas are not so crazy

Global warming is in theory reversable, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where.

SOLUTIONS
if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´populaion

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

recicling wastes,limit water use

here are a 100 more ways

Here are some ways to reduce your carbon footprint - the amount of carbon dioxide you are responsible for putting into the air. There are plenty more sites on the web, this is just one.

These are a few things I've started doing and they save me money too.
-Unplug appliances (tv is a big one) when you aren't using them, they use electricity even when they're off.
-Turn down you heat 2 or 3 degrees and turn up your AC 2 or 3 degrees.
-Take shorter showers.
-Turn down your hot water heater temperature 2 or 3 degrees.
-Use public transportation.
