The chinese immigrated to Hawaii in large numbers to work on the plantation fields, along with many other asians, most specifically large numbers of filipino, japanese and koreans. Lots of portuguese also immigrated here, to work as the "lunas," or the people who ran the day-to-day operations at the pineapple and sugar cane fields. As for which specific path they used to travel here, I assume they went by boat on the pacific ocean....

Are you kidding? I bet the CHINESE didn't know the route they used to get to Hawaii! A boat load of them probably got lost in a typhoon in the middle of the Pacific, floated around out to sea for a couple of months, & then just about when it looked like they were all going to die of thirst or O.D. on fish- it was, "Ah so!- Land ho!" -and they ended up on one of the Hawaiian Islands. (And now you know the REST of the story!) :)
