It's always been considered a cliche date move, but is it even comfortable?!

it's really not that bad. i mean your arm can fall asleep sometimes, but its worth it to be close to a girl you like. the girl can help by putting her head on the guy's chest or shoulder, that way she isn't putting all the pressure on the arm. really though, it's not like it's hard to sit through a movie with your arm around a girl. any guy who says it is is just a pansy.

Sometimes. If I've got a good feeling about the girl, then it's much less intimidating. But if I'm still trying to read her, then I wait until I feel more comfortable. A few times I've tried anyway. I haven't had a bad reaction yet, but then I'm not trying to put my hands all over her either. It's just a chance to get a lil closer.

Not with the more ergonomic high backed chairs. These chairs are made for individual comfort which puts your shoulder in awkward position. Those seats in the movies have the chair back about mid back which makes sprawling out comfortable.

Depends on the seating, most of the time it's pretty uncomfortable and your arm tends to fall asleep being elevated like that and the seat divider stabbing you in the ribs.

Only because the arm between the seats gets in the way. I prefer to put my hand on her leg, instead. It coveys the same amount of affection.

Yeah, when you leave it there for 2 hours. At the end of the movie you need a blood transfusion, your arm has gone to sleep and turned white.

Its not uncomfortable. Guys do this to test the water...
Its a sort of feeling out process wherein the limits and boundaries are set and talked about.

Yes it's a bit uncomfortable from a putting yourself out there perspective. Physically it is OK.

Nope. But is sex in the kitchen comfortable? No, it's all about the how neat it is. When you have your arm around girls it says, "Hey, I'm badass enough to have my arm around a girl, check out how awesome I am...yeah...I'm pretty much the lion in her den".
