My friend's mom has had 5 seizure's/strokes or something of the like in the past two years. With the most recent one she passed out, and her leg was completly numb. My friend pounded on her leg very hard and she could not feel it. They ran a catscan, and an open mri, and a few other tests and could not find anything wrong, so they assume it's psychological. Can a psychological seizure make you pass out and be unresponsive and make you leg go numb because that doesn't make sense to me. She is on medicaid and I think maybe she's not getting all the tests she needs. If it is psychological, what are the most effective ways of treating that, because she and my friend have had enough of hospitals. Any help would be much appreciated. Also she will be recieving medicare soon, so hopefully that will open a few more doors.

If your description of the medical tests is complete, the diagnosis is bogus. You cannot rule out all of the potential causes of a seizure with only an MRI or CAT scan, so there is no basis to conclude that this is psychosomatic just because nothing showed up on these images. Most likely, your friend's mom had some type of epileptic seizure, which can be very difficult to diagnose. Epileptic seizures are often mistakenly diagnosed as other types of behavior. My cousin has epilepsy and she was once mistakenly arrested for being under the influence of drugs when she had an epileptic seizure at school. Your friend's mom should see a competent neurologist when she is able.

Thats a standard answer when a female presents with any kind of problem the doctor doesn't understand. If a male presented with the same symptoms they wouldn't even consider it psychological. Don't you know all women are considered hysterical by the medical profession ?

Sounds like she had some sort of pinched nerve . I do hope she gets better care next time.

Seizures are not psychological. They are neurological meaning something going on in the brain. Treatment is needed.
