1999 jeep GC V8 4wd is having transmission problems. I changed the transmission fluid (I used ATF+4) and after it started shifting hard into thid gear. I took it to a transmission shop and they want me to rebuild the transmission, does anyone know something about my problem? I am not sure what to do.....

Take the suv to a repair shop to get a new drive shaft or to inspect the transmission

I also own a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 4.7L and as a matter of fact, it is in the shop right now with the same problems. Before you go and spend a couple thousand dollars on a new tranny, have someone check out the input/output speed sensors. If one or both (like mine) have failed, it causes the Jeep to shift hard. But also keep in mind that when a tranny goes out on almost any vehicle, 3rd & reverse are usually the first gears to go out on you.

Good Luck!!

1st generation GC's are known for transmission problems - I have seen a surprising large number on Craiglist for very good prices - thus making me interested as project vehicle for a diesel swap with a different transmission. Good luck.
