Sound to me a partition error. I tried making a dual boot windows xp 64 and linux fedora and the linux partition tool was bad and it messed up my windows files. Try deleting partition for xp pro and recreating it and this time not with QUICK the low level one that takes around an hour. Ive had dual boot 2003 200 xp pro. I use dual boot al the time but i also use partition magic maybe you can get a free demo.

It sounds like you're trying to install both OSs on the same drive partition. A Dual boot usually means one drive, two partitions. It probably can't install/load that file because it's open and in use by the existing OS. Use parttion magic or similar to create a second partion on your drive and install XP Pro on the newly created partition. Why dual boot to XP or MCE. MCE is XP but with more graphically, media related features. They are almost identical operating systems. ????? More trouble than it's worth. Good luck.

You can not have two windows on the same partitions your going to have to make two partitions if your using one hard drive

go to Help and in the search bar type... Partition ... it should take you to the partition help and show you what to do

after that restart the computer and have your CD in the drive, put your second system on the new partition

also do a search on MS web site for dual boot systems there you will get all the info needed

Are you trying to install them on the same drive volume? Microsoft does not support that config.
