Truth is there is only one thing that atheists have in common - that is the belief that God does not exist.

There are no other 'rules' to being atheist. Some believe in science, some don't. Some believe in spirits, afterlives etc.

I am just sick of people saying, "atheists believe in science" or something to that effect, because you can't speak for all atheists because we all have widely varying beliefs.

Saying that an atheist has some sort of religious belief is like calling bald a hair color.

Yes, I plagiarized that from somewhere but I don't recall where.

Your initial premise is wrong. Atheists do not have a belief that there is no god, they do not have beliefs at all - they do not believe there is a god. I am an atheist simply because I have found no evidence whatsoever that gods exist - and I have looked. I think that most people who take the trouble to look for gods and question what they read rather than accept what they are told will become atheists.

Actually, I don't even believe that god doesn't exist. I simply don't have a belief in god(s). It's an absence of belief, not an active disbelief. I know that's hard for some to grasp, but that's it.

Now philosophically, I have some significant disagreements with theism, but they are not the "reasons" for my absence of belief. As far as I am concerned, non-belief is the default, religion is indoctrinated and imposed when people are vulnerable to such influence.

My sister is atheist. And she believes there is no God but only that. Other beliefs she has have nothing to do to science or anything else. Atheists are simply talking about God. Different people believe different thigns about creation/evolution.

As an atheist I can assure you I have NEVER met another atheist who believes in spirits, or the afterlife. You don't 'believe in' science. Science just is. It evolves and changes as new discoveries are made. Unlike religion which has remained stagnant and stuck in the dark ages.

I would add, however, that atheism isn't an "active" belief.

I don't walk around each day, saying to myself, "I don't believe in god. I don't believe in god. I don't believe in god."

Atheism is simply the natural human state BEFORE we are indoctrinated into whatever nonsensical theism we've been taught.

So being an "a"theist is only noteworthy if you want to go to the trouble of labeling all the other millions of ridiculous things you don't believe in (atrollist, afairyist, aleprechaunist, etc.)

I do not think an atheist believes in anything other than their own selves. They believe what happens in their lives is of their own making and that when they die that's all there is!! They do not believe in Heaven or Hell, or God. I hope you're not one of them. If you are I hope God forgives you. I do think you have a right to your own belief's, so therefore I do not judge you, only God can do that.

They believe that there is no god so therefore there is no point in living... Actually I admire Atheist people you see I could never ever live like that... It would be depressing for me......... One of my best friend is atheist and every one keeps talking about him but he only told me and his GF how he really feels about this.... The thing is that he feels like there is no god so there is no heaven or hell so life is just this phase of life and nothing more and to me this is depressing because most of us even though if we don't practice religion on daily bases believe in after life and heaven and hell so that makes HOPE makes life easier for us...

Anyway all I want to say is that I really admire you guys and its really a shame that people treat you some times badly because that must hurt really bad so I am sorry. I can't say how you feel but I am Muslim and I get a lot of hate because of my religion so I think I know close to how you feel.

I thought that atheists did not believe in God, period. Didn't realize there were others that thought they did not believe in science or whatever. By the way I'm not an atheist.
