I need help with tring to find out a way to go to school on being a nurse?

I do not have a GED or any thing and i also need help from the goverment on helping me i also work 40+ hours a week and have two children and know help from there father at all please help me to find a way so that i can better myself and my kids I also live in GA

You have to get your GED first and foremost. After you get that, then start applying to nursing schools. You can go to a community college for two years to get your associates degree, a hospital based school to get your diploma, or you can go to a university to get your bachelor's in nursing.

You might also want to consider applying to an LPN program. It's a shorter, more basic route, but you won't be paid as much as an RN.

You need to get your GED before you can start nursing school. The best idea is to approach the community college to see how they can help you prepare for it. Some do have programs to help people get it. Depending on your income, it might be held against you with the FAFSA. However, there are student loan forgiveness programs and even a scholarship program if someone agrees to work in a critical shortage need area for a period of a couple of years. Also, some states do offer help for nursing students. It is a pretty intense program though that may make it pretty hard to work enough hours while in there.

I have a renter that started out by working at a convalescent hospital, she studied for her assistant nursing certificate - the convalescent offered that at their place of business- she then went to work at a near by Hospital and is working on becoming a LVN -

they are right, start with the GED first and get it.

then apply for other help. there are TONS of scholarships for nursing, and high demand for them as well. hospitals offer internships too.

There are government loans & grants, and then there are private loans & scholarships.

try to aim for grants/scholarships more... they are not to be paid back. its confusing sometimes, but just keep applying. Scholarships usually have a 1 or 2 page application, and require an essay. Take your time with the essay, so yours stands out.

every big (and small) company you see (manufacturer, orgs, corps and groups also) all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Coke, computer companies etc etc etc

here are some links with a HUGE list of what is available. some you will need to copy and paste into a new window. also, fastweb (take the time to fill it in) will search databases and get back to you with a list of scholarships you qualify for.

Also contact all mens, womens associations in your state, they almost always have grants & scholarships. What ever field you are going into, contact the orgs, associations etc for them; Also check with professional organizations related to your career interests, such as the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association. they also always have scholarships. Research and dig, call then write. Its all worth it.

OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.
