if you do 5 sets of 20 push ups twice a day for a few weeks, then yes! you cant just work out once and hope for results. gotta stick to it. and while your at it you might as well do some other exercises too. if you can get to a gym do some squats and bench. start slow. do it right! it'll be good for you, and really you feel really good about yourself after a good work out.

You will probably get more increase on your pecks than your arms. When you finish your sets, notice where the 'heat' is. Those are the places you will build. Good Luck! P.S. Weight training may be more help for you, and don't worry about getting too big, that is NEVER the problem. It takes a TON of work to get very big, or most of the guys you see on the street WOULD be!!

It's actually recommended that you do 2 sets of 30 because you don't want to make your arms tired to where you can't do much of anything else. I've done it, and it's not the funnest thing in the world. And like one of the other people answered throw some crunches or sit ups in there so you don't get completely worn out right off the get go. And don't start right off the bat doing that much easy yourself into it, if you don't you will surely be regretting it.

this may tone you but you will have to do them 5 sets every day. if you want a little bulk add a backpack and fill it to where 5 sets of 10 with a 10sec break between sets puts you near muscle failure. general rule:
for pecs, hands wide
for tricepts, hands close together
for shoulders, hands beside your hips when down

You have to push yourself PAST the point of muscle fatigue. it should burn like hell, BUT, don't work too hard at first. The soreness will discourage you.
Also, bear in mind that pushups target the pecs, triceps, shoulders and, to a lesser degree, the lats.
you'll have to do other exercises to build other muscle groups.

Push ups work your upper chest and your triceps, your Biceps wont grow at all. You need to do curls to gain mass on your biceps.

yes, of course!
I don't know the exact reason, but at the GYM trainers always ask for 3 sets of whatever....
The thing is, if you do it often, it'll work...
