you should try and dress as if you were meeting with God, that's how I see it anyway... just be presentable and tactful...

no you don't have to get dressed up in your 'Sunday best' to go to church

in fact nothing in the bible says you have to either

however there is a historical tradition of being in your Sunday best based on when there was a roman emperor who became a christian and would occasionally drop in unannounced at church. the people would then always be dressed up to the nines in case he ever happened to drop by that particular Sunday.

thesedays there are churches where people DO still hold by that tradition (and many don't know why) and many that don't (jeans and T shirt being the order of the day). personally i would say if you are going to church then check out what the unwritten rules are so that you don't cause offense - but whichever - ladies ought to be sure they are wearing enough (not too low a cut or too high a hem) for obvious reasons.

I am a Christain. My parents expect me to dress nicely to go to church. My parents do respect me that I am a teen so they let me to go church with jeans or dress pants and a nice top. My own choices on the clothes that I wear (I'm very modest and I don't like to show a lot of skin) also affect about what I wear to church. On very special occasions such as Easter and Christmas, I wear a nice dress when attending the service (though I have to have it longer than my knees and at least short sleeved for me to be comfortable to wear it in public). During communion (its the first Sunday night of every month and sometimes depend on the months and our Pastor) I wear jeans and a t-shirt though I can get lazy so I just wear what I wore that Sunday Service.

No, not at all. Many wear casual clothes, jeans, shorts (when it's hot) - as long as it's modest. I wear pants and shirts (or sweaters).

When I was younger, I dressed up for some of the reasons mentioned by others (respect for God, to look nice). Then I met someone visiting my church who thought I was stuffy and unapproachable because of my attire.

From then on, I have dressed casually for the most part. The Gospel is offensive enough to non-believers without me adding to their uncomfortableness by the way I dress.

Oh and I am a Baptist.

No, but I've always gone dressed up more than just jeans and t-shirt...(I have a hard time wearing jeans to church) I think dressing well, even if not "fancy" is giving more Honor to the One you're attending church for.

Nobody really "has" to at our church. There are certain standards one follows, but it has more to do with where one lives than what the Bible commands. Think about it. How would you dress to go to a nice restaurant, a friend's house, or to your job? I do find it interesting that God is suppose to feel respected when a person dresses better to go to the mall then to His place. Motive is really the issue. One must think about why they do or don't do something.

Yes I always do even though most people don't. I think dressing up shows your respect to God. I'm sure he doesn't care what you wear as long as you are there, but I just feel better doing it. I feel like wearing jeans, flip flops and a tee shirt is so inappropriate for Church.

If you want to, you can, the church I go to meets several days a week, so its not "put on your sunday best" cos it wednesday, maybe friday, its up to the individual, if you have a family gathering some will dress up, others jeans and t shirt. Just come with the right heart and meet with Jesus!

No. Most people come casual but nice. People don't usually come in shorts but they will come in all kinds of other things. It is interesting to watch people dress according to their generation - the older generation dresses up more, the middle generation dresses more casual and the younger generation dresses all kinds of ways! Just a trend I've noticed. We don't care how people come, just so they come! Everyone is welcome. Respect starts with an inner attitude and doesn't necessarily translate into outer clothing (although sometimes it does). But I've seen people who were really "dressed down" demonstrate alot more respect in their attitude than someone who was "dressed to the nines!" God is about the heart - not just the "smart."

I am not who has to many clothes to choose from so I can't say I dress up I do the best I can with what i got..One time someone told me when they wanted me to go to church with them, and I wasn't dressed for church and really didn't want to go, but she said your not there to please men your there to please God, and God sees the heart more than what your wearing....that made me feel kind of good to know that its not how your dress that is important, but just to be there in God's house, so I went..

It depends if it is a special holiday or not.....

if it is the usual sunday I try to look somewhat nice- most of the time the usual jeans and t-shirt.

But next week for Easter- I will probably be wearing some nice pants with a button down shirt.

I don't really think Jesus specifies what we need to wear when worshiping Him, as long as we are comfortable with, then it is probably O.K. with God.

Jesus made us in His image so clothes are something Adam and Eve came up with not God, to see if they can hide their sins.

But I like to dress up sometimes because I feel like I wear jeans/t-shirt alot or shorts/t-shirt.
But anyways...it's really your preference otherwise
