Everyone who can work, should work. Absolutely. No reason not to. Bipolar is VERY treatable. No need to sit at home everyday because you have mood swings. Get some help from your doctor. A job not only give you money and independence, but also a great sense of self-worth.

Are you asking about all people with disabilities or just persons with Bipolar Disorder. If a person is collecting disability compensation, legally they do not work. It would cause them to lose the money they get from the government. I feel that if a person with a mental disorder, providing it is controlled and they feel well enough, or even its been approved by a doctor, then by all means, yes. I know that Bipolar disorder is difficult and the person maynot mentally be able to hold a job then no. There are varied degrees of disabilities with mental illness or otherwise. It seems to me that capability of holding a job would first be decided between the person and the doctor. If you have a disability but you are physically and mentally capable, then it would be considered discrimination and against the law. I suffer with depression and beleive that I am normal. Who decides who is normal? I can understand the fact of proving a disability to collect compensation from the government. As far as a job or working It is up to me if I choose to stay at home or work a job. I have worked in the past but I choose not to work now, fortunately my husband's job provides income to live comfortably. We have reared four children and help them with their education. It indeed would be considered by others discrimination to say that I am not normal because of my depression.

It depends on the severity of the mental illness. Some people cannot perform work activities and are truly unable to work. Not everyone with mental health issues get relief from meds and therapy so alot of people suffer. Work is therefore out of the question. I don't like you referring to people with Bipolar as not being normal...what is normal anyway??? I have OCD and depression. I take care of my family as best I can and I cannot work...I have tried and I simply cannot. I also have seizures...does that make me less of a person???

There are different degrees of Bipolar disorder. Some people manage to cope with it well. For example if they are in sales then they can sell a lot during their manic stage and take it easy when they are down.

Everyone should work if they are able.
