green lawns and fear of West Nile virus are wiping out a lot of bird and insect species. The bees are a critical "collateral damage" problem. If the majority of bees die off because of pesticide use, then a lot of people will starve.

At 16 you are more preoccupied in the opposite sex and not the great out doors. This has a greater effect on what is most important to you at any point in time. If you really want to see the wonders of nature then everyday stop and marvel at some creation of mother natures. If you really want to get into seeing more of birds, butterflies or anything natural then take up photography or bird watching.

Animals don't become extinct because we hunt them down and kill them, but because we clear their habitat to make houses. Our houses are bigger, meaning today almost all trees are removed before suburbs are built. Once the population declines to a certain level, extinction is very likely.
Visit Vietnam: a country where you can travel for miles in jungle areas and never see a bird. They were all killed in the war for food.

(1) your perception is different now. (2) you don't look past your cell phone. (3) you have moved to a more densly populated area, they don't make it there because of windshields on cars.
global warming has caused acid rain, and that has taken their toll on the frogs and toads. should be more butterflys and bees.

It's certain that some species are decreasing in number. Be sure to include native plants in your yard or garden and provide some natural shelter and a water supply.
