Try to think of your assistance in these terms. If you had tripped on the sidewalk, fallen and bumped your head -- what would you want your friend to do for you?

Give your friend a few minutes for the seizure to pass. Allow him to lie down, where ever he is. Try to keep him from bumping his head, causing further injury. Do not restrain him, as his muscles are spasming, but give him room. If people stop an look, assure them he will ge fine in a few minutes, and ask them for some privacy.
When the seizure completes, your friend may be somewhat groggy, as if waking from a deep sleep, and being somewhat disoriented. Let them sit there for a bit of time to get their wherewith all. It is not uncommon for the person to need sleep following a seizure, and to feel somewhat "off" for the rest of the day. If this person has wet their pants during the seizure, recognize his muscles were all out of control at the time, and don't make a big deal about it. I'm sure your friend would prefer you didn't notice.
Don't act too disappointed that you've had to change your plans. It can't be helped.

Just make sure he gets safely to a lying down position. Falling is usually the most dangerous thing. Don't panic. They usually last only a minute or so. If he is taking his medication as directed, it is unlikely that he will continue to have them, or at least very few. Good luck.
