When the job is done, and not before ! Iraq is a free country, however it will be a freer country once all the fanatics from Syria and Iran are properly disposed of, this will take awhile to do, but it can be done !

The American forces will gradually stand down as the Iraqi security forces are able to take over. There may always be a contingent of our military there. There will certainly be troops in the general area ready to respond if necessary.
But it is safe to say the battle will move on to some other place and then another after that until the conditions that breed terrorism no longer exist. As the more moderate Muslim leaders take back their religion from the fanatics there will be less and less opportunity for the terrorists to gain support or bolster membership.
It may be several decades until a new Renaissance occurs in the Middle East and the reasons to destroy each other become only a page in a very ugly history.

Even if troops are pulled out, there will probably be troops in the country for at least the next 10 years. You don't destroy a country and then leave it to fend for itself.

Never it will eventually turn into a distant base and people will go there for a TDY and we will continue to have a presence there. It will be just like the cold war we had all kinds of bases in Europe and the reason was to control communism, so now its to control extreme islamist.
