I just bought a 2007 Merlot Red V6 SEL Fusion last weekend. Beautiful car. Fun to drive, roomy, comfortable. Only 100 miles on it so far, but I'm happy with it. Ford did a great job on these.
I also had an opportunity to drive the 2007 Ford Five Hundred. I can see why it failed. It uses the same engine and transmission as the Fusion, but it was just too underpowered in the Five Hundred. Plus it drove with all the fun of driving an oil tanker. But it looked great, had incredible amounts of room in front, back and in the trunk.
It's amazing how Ford can hit one out of the park with the Fusion, but also make a dog like the Five Hundred.

The Fusion is the best mid-size Ford has come out with in a while. I had the 06 with a 5-speed and now I have an 07 with the V6. I'll take it over a Camry any day.
Hold your anticipation for 2009...a nice Fusion redesign. Think Ford Iosis.

Okay first of all, I cannot believe the Fusion has exactly the options of the Malibu. You're essentially telling me it has the exact same soundproofing, same bells and whistles....and OnStar? Only GM has OnStar....and for me, right there is the reason to go with the Malibu. One year of the Turn-by-turn package of OnStar, plus three months of XM Radio. Soundproofing that equals that of the BMW 325i. The best manufacturer's warranties in the industry. If price is a factor, you need to consider the price over the life of the vehicle, not just the up-front cost. If your warranty is a longer one, you save more money on repairs. I would say you are very lucky to get a base Malibu LS for $18K; the dealers have very little negotiating room on the Malibu right now, because it is in such high demand and there aren't that many available yet. As for the Fusion......well, it's a Ford. I don't like Ford cars. 'Nuff said.

Hope.. the ford fusion is one dynamic automobile.. it out classes toyota camry and honda accord.. and it out classes them by a mile.. fusion has it all.. toyota and honda kind of threw down the gauntlet with the camry and accord.. and ford answered with the fusion.. It is kind of like ford said.. Here is the Fusion.. beat that!.. and nobody did..

Its ok, but I work at a dodge dealership and I've driven both the fusion, the all-new avenger and the sebring, and I think that the avenger competes well with the fusion, but it has more interior room and the engine is quiter and it also has a six-speed automatic transmission that makes you feel like you're in an indy car while you're getting 30 highway mpg's.
