The US Army is far bigger and more powerful, because it has to undertake all land warfare missions.
The Marines are mainly designed to work with the Navy in seaborne landings. While they have all the arms of service- artillery, tanks and so on- these arms very much support the infantry.
The Marines soldiery is probably considered to be more 'powerful' than most their counterpart units in the Army, possibly just because of heritage and because the army has a much longer 'tail' of rear echelon troops. The Marines are very good at what they do, and because they are made to be quickly deployed they ore often the 'fire brigade' of the US military, being moved around to where the trouble is.
The Army also have such gnarly elite units- airborne divisions for instance- but virtually the whole of the Marines is a 'cutting edge' force.

The Canadian Forces, the all encompassing body for the military in Canada, consists of three main elements, namely the Army, Navy and Air Force. They are not separate entities like they are in the US. Many trades are specific to one service however many trades are common to all. Within the army element there is the traditional army, artillery and armoured branches. This includes your basic infantry soldier, artillery gunner or tank/APC driver. There are also specific units with specialty skills and purposes such as JTF2 (our special forces) or even the CP (close protection) unit that guards ViPs. Within the air element there are all of the traditional air trades from pilots and navigators to air engine mechanics. There are also some small specialized units like those who do the air marshal services or even airfield security. Within the navy element there are all of the traditional navy trades from naval weapons, sonar, surface and subsurface, bosons..... I'm not aware of any special naval units but there may vary well be, I'm just not families with them. There are also what is referred to as the "purple trades" or the support trades that are common to all three elements. By that I mean you could be an MP yet wear an army uniform and be posted to a navy base. You could be a clerk wearing an air force uniform yet be posted to an army unit. These trades are common to all and the division of uniforms is determined by the size of the various elements so that all are represented. As far as being "stuck forever", that won't happen. You can join and stay as long as you like before moving on as long as you fulfill your initial 4 year contract (some are sorter or some are longer depending upon the trade you choose). If you are interested in the RCMP then consider the MPs if you are looking for both soldier and police experience. Our MPs, unlike the MPs of other nations, are fully accredited and functioning police officers both within the military and within the civilian legal system. The requirements to join though are a bit higher then civilian police services because they require that an applicant have, as a bear minimum, a Police Sciences or Police Foundations diploma at college. If you have university, even better.

I am ex army, but there a million of us. The marines go in first and take the land. It's really not a good question. Without the marines, the army would have have nothing to go on, without the army the marines would have nothing to back them up. Without the Air Force backing them all up, neither can achieve, Without the Navy, you run the risk of Nuclear attacks.
They are all separate, but IMHO, equal, they all have a job to do, and they do it well.
So really,, what you need to ask is . what is more powerful. The U.S. Military or it's foreign forces?
Our combined forces is what makes it work.

The marine corp. It is harder to become a marine and most of the people who try out to be marines fail and have to go to the us army instead.
