I'm an average teenager and yes I break out really bad sometimes. It's not the zits but mainly the scars they leave behind that I can't get rid of. My friends all say Proactive but I want something I can buy directly not order. Any good products that won't dry out my skin but will help quickly?

Thanks so much. :]

I have a few suggestions.

I have the same skin as you, or the same problem anyways, ive tried proactiv, it didnt work for me. Biggest waste of money.

Head and shoulders. Its cheap, a huge bottle for 10 dollars.
Buy just the regular shampoo, not the 2 in 1.
the zinc and pythorine dry out zits better than ANYTHING ive ever tried. I have amazing skin now.
You'll need to get a moisturizer though, a good one. H&S dries out your skin alot, which isnt necessarily bad... i mean, no zits, right? But dry skin isnt pretty look at.

Another suggestion i have for a face wash is Clean and Clear Contiunous control cream cleanser. It works amazing and you can feel your pores breathe after you use it.

Anyways, for spot treatment, any product containt 2% + salycylic acid is the best. I have stuff that is 3 %, its very thick, but works awesome and brings blemishes down over night.
If you cant get your hands on anything, take an advil ( and only an advil, theyre one of the only painkillers that have a high concentration of salycilic acid), crush it up, add a little water till its kinda pastey and apply to your zit.

Never use toothpaste.
If you want to get rid of your scars, Maderma works great.. It doesnt clog your pores, and gets rid of scars really fast, especially if theyre relitavely new. And its only about 20$!

I hope this helped!

I am 26 yrs old and have had moderate acne since I was 12. I was never able to completely get rid of it and a few years ago it got much worse. I went to a site called www.acne.org. It is a forum for all sorts of people with all sorts of acne. The creator really believes in benzoyl peroxide to clear acne. I marched right to the store and bought Clean&Clear facewash with 10% BP and Persagel 10% BP. I have been almost completely clear for two years! It is incredibly drying, so I use jojoba oil or Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream after the facewash and before the BP....just don't use too much of the oil. My considerable scars are getting less noticeable with time. Try not to pick at acne although I know it is hard and noone wants to walk outside with a huge whitehead on their face:p Good luck! You can buy these at Walmart and i am telling you that i was very clear in less than a week. Don't be afraid to use alot of Persagel, but stay away from the eyes and neck. It is very, very drying!!

Hands down the BEST thing I've seen work is Tea Tree Oil.
You can buy it in any health food store.
My son had BAD acne, had tried all the other stuff and none of it really worked.
Once he started using tea tree oil, not only did he get rid of all his zits within 2 weeks, but he never got a single acne scar, and they had called him 'Pizza Face'.
To use the tea tree oil:
Wash your hands thoroughly and drop about 5 drops of the oil into your still-wet hands.
Gently spread this over your face (if you need, you can add more drops).
Leave on for a few minutes, then rinse off with WARM water (not hot, not cold).
Then make a cup with your palm and run some warm water into it, add another 3 drops and spread on face. Let this air dry for day use.
At night, you can put on a heavier 'coat' of tea tree oil so it can work while you sleep.
Don't use any soaps, don't pop zits, and NEVER touch your face with dirty hands.

Well to get rid of scars...you need a repair product. That means an exfoliator. You have a choice of chemical or physical. Microderm abrasion is a physical exfoliator - which is one you can't use if you have active acne.

Chemical exfoliator includes products that have alpha hydroxy acids (there are others) or retinol.

And if you use a repair product...you must use a broad spectrum sunscreen. SPF 20 is a minimum.

BeautiControl has wonderful products that work great. I know you don't want to order product. I'm sure there is a local consultant that could help you.

I'm in my 30s and have an occasional acne outbreak that leaves a few red marks...but they have disappeared faster now that I use their products. And, they are easier to conceal under makeup as well.

Hope that helps!

Try Neutrogena Oil-Free acne wash. It's a foaming cleanser that works wonders. Use it twice a day and with an acne treatment cream that you apply only on your zits. If you just apply a little bit of lotion every day at least once, it'll keep your skin from getting dry. If this doesn't work, try Murad or Avon or MAC products.

I have it and currently use it. It works very well and I reccomend it for you. It does not dry out skin because it has a lotion with it. You can watch on tv for one of the trial things where if you dont like it you can send it back. They require you to register and there is a fee. (being acne free is NOT cheap.) But, you do not have to recieve it every month. You can cancel after the first shipment of proactive has arrived.

My doctor told me the best thing to do was the get a dermotogolist reccomended cleanser like Purpose which can be bought at Target, Walmart or any store. Then after cleansing the skin use the oil free lotion and pimple treatment.

If you want to try it, all the big chain pharmacies now carry their own version of Proactive. I've read the ingredients, they're exactly the same. Proactive's active ingredient is benzoyl peroxide, just like Clearasil or Oxy.

the best is the natural things found in nature: creating a mask out of fresh aloe vera really eliminates scars. It helps alot.
