I've had tanlines under my ankle for almost two years now. It happened because one summer I was wearing shorts along with socks and I was sitting out in the sun. Now my feet are very pale and I have to wear huge socks to cover them up. I want to get rid of them so I can start wearing the ankle cut socks and not have a very noticeable tanline. If you can be specific please be so because I don't know anything about tans or where to get tanned/how if i want to get rid of the tanlines from the right spot.

Are the self tanners permanent or temporary? And if I were to naturally tan it how long would that take?

Use a lotion w/ gradual, self-tanning ingredients. Jergen's & Neutrogena make good ones.

Be sure to wear SPF on the darker parts of your legs so your ankles can "catch up."

I agree...using a self tanner just where you need it would be a quick fix. You would apply it just above your ankle bone and on the top of your foot. Basically, apply it where you have hair on your legs and feet. That is the part that tans.
BeautiControl just came out with a new self-tanner, Leg Apeel, and I love it. I've never used a self tanner before...but it looks natural and looks great. If the first application isn't dark enough you re-apply every 24 hours until you get the right shade. And then once a week to keep it looking just the way you want.
Then maybe over the summer if you expose that area to the sun you will no longer have a line.
hope that helps!
To answer your additional post....self-tanners are temporary...of course so is a summer tan to some extent. But, the number of sessions really depends on your skin and how dark the other area is. It could take a couple sessions or more...it's hard to give advice on that.

I would recommend tanning WITHOUT socks on at all. Try a tanning salon or just lay out in the sun for a couple hours. They should even up nicely in just a couple sittings = )

You can use tanning lotion. Just run it on to your feet. I would maybe start just below the knee- so it's a little more evenly colored. But, be careful, most people fet blothes around the ankle because they don't rub it in thouroughly. But, it may not match the tan color that you have already. You can also try using bronzing powder for a quick fix.

Just a suggestion if you use a self tanner for your ankles and feet. Make sure to rub a regular lotion around your ankles and knees and such that way you don't get the orange spots around those areas! Someone told me that and it really works. Elbows too if you use it all over. Good luck!

Well, you have a few options.
If you want something now,..you can go to a tanning booth to put color on the lighter area. It won't be so noticable.
You can use a self tanner just on your anke area where it si lighter, just use a good one like Coppertone light to medium or Loreal Sublime. You will have results in just a few short hours.

if the climate is sweet, choose a private spot to tan topless. in all risk purely want approximately an hour. purely be careful to no longer get burnt. I swim topless perpetually and have a large tan. If this purely isn't a hazard, decide for the tanning mattress (topless or nude). Spray tans are infamous for making you bypass orange and would look very pretend
