You don't want to put your sub above the speakers. Bass waves travel best at ground level. Beyond that it would help to know more about the speakers and sub. Nevertheless, I would advise corner placement if your sub is small or if you are trying to maximize your total bass output. "Corner loading" can emphasize upper bass over lower bass, however. If you want to get more sophisticated in finding the best spot to put your sub there is a trick you can use that involves some initial inconvenience (but when did that ever stop and audiophile?!). Place the subwoofer at the sweet spot -- the spot you hopefully will be listening from. This may involve moving the amplifier or receiver temporarily if you don't have a cable long enough. Reverse the sub's phase and point it back at the main speakers. Play some familiar music that has significant bass content and move around at the "front" (where the speakers and sub will ordinarily be). Take your time and listen carefully as you move around. The spot at which the bass sounds best to you in this exercise is the optimal place for your sub to go.

I would put the sub. as close as possible to the center of the room.If you put it in a corner or against a wall the sound distribution will not be even. Most rooms are not big enough for the low notes of a sub. to develop. What happens is the very low notes (20HZ to 50HZ) are only partly produced and they bounce of walls and reinforce part of the note and set up standing waves which does not sound like the original note would. Still most people are happy with it because they hear and feel what they consider to be very low sound.

A movie theater is longer than 56 feet. A20 HZ note is about 56 feet long. So at the Cinema you really do feel a complete 20 HZ note as it should be. You will never get the same result at home unless your room is 56 feet long.

So by placing your sub in the open the bass notes will spread out in all directions and give you a smoother result.

the situation of a subwoofer may well be serious. in general, a nook is the proper place to get the proper quantity (performance), yet whilst quantity is what you choose, you could continuously ensue the bass point. greater significant are the form of "status waves" at specific frequencies which will make the quantity selection a great deal with the area of the listener. this is exceedingly much impossible to do away with those, however the proper way is to test with diverse speaker places and measuring quantity aroud the room with a valid point meter (you may get one at Radio Shack; the analog type is greater much less costly and much less complicated to apply than the digital). you ought to use the try tones generated by potential of your receiver to grant the source sign on your woofer. in case you do not choose to issue with this, discover an off-middle area on your sub: not interior the middle of the room or on the mid-factor of a wall. A nook might artwork ok, yet a average displacement from the middle of the nook might desire to be better with appreciate to status waves. Play the try tones; walk around the room and pay attention for quantity differences.

Doesn't really matter with subs. Generally for a higher bass output, you place them in a corner, or as close to interiors walls as you can. The key to subs is making your system sound like they aren't there. You never want to hear your sub as it's own entity. You want it to blend in with every other speaker.
