The number of pictures it can hold depends on the size of the pictures. If you have a 7.2 megapixel camera, then each picture will be about 3-4 mb. There are 1024 MB in 1 GB, so you should be able to hold at about 256 or more if it has less megapixels. Determine the size of the pictures you are taking (right click the file and select properties), and divide 1024 by the number of megabytes (there are 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte).

1gb Memory Card

As Anthony says...with a 7MP camera, you can take approx. 250 photos with a 1GB card, shooting in the best resolution available (which you should always do).
That's not much...especially for a trip to Europe. When I went to Europe almost 2 years ago, I easily took 100-150 photos per day.

You have a few options...
Buy more memory (it's cheap now) at least 2-4GB, but you can buy memory in any part of the world, so you could easily buy it in Europe if you need more.
You can get your photos burnt onto a CD at any photo processing shop (just don't lose it).
Or you can buy a portable HDD...where you just insert your memory card into and upload your photos to regularly. They are available in capacities of 20GB or more, and only worth using if you plan to shoot lots of photos and/or movies.

But, I think your best option would be to buy at least 2x2GB cards on top of the 1GB card that comes with your camera. This will allow plenty of room for photos and movies (just keep movies to a minimum, because they eat up card space very quickly).

My advice...take your user manual with you, in case you need help with the camera's functions or settings.
Buy a high speed memory card/s for fast performance.
Buy a spare set of batteries (rechargeable), so you never have to worry about running out of power for your camera. Recharge batteries every night, so you are ready for the next day's shooting.
Take lots of photos (it's digital, so there's no need to skimp on the amount of photos you take).
Delete all rubbish shots to conserve card space...recompose the shot if you have to.
Keep movies to an absolute minimum and no more than 20-30 seconds in length.
When you fill one card up (lock it by flipping the little 'Lock' switch on the side of the card...so you don't inadvertantly delete all the photos on it. Just flip it the other way to unlock it when you wish to upload photos to your PC.

And the best advice...have fun!
good luck

I agree with Vintage Music and anyone else above me (or below) who says that you should always use your best image quality and largest size. Memory is CHEAP these days and you should not be on the trip of a lifetime worrying about how many pictures you can cram onto an undersized memory card. Buy another one if you are worried about this.

http://www.lexar.com/digfilm/capacity_chart.html shows various card sizes with various MP cameras. This may not be 100% accurate for your camera, so once you buy the camera, take out the manual and look for a chart about memory card capacity that is specific for your camera.

1gb sd memory cards will hold about 300 medium quality pictures. I purchased another sd card to take along to switch if I need more memory. 1gb sd memory cards can be found for $14.95 at you local "Large Retail Store" (hint).

Depends. What setting do you have the pics at & how much mb does each album take up? Load these on a pc & check the properties to see what the combined total is. If its about no less than 970mb (allowing for 10% bad sectors), nothing is wrong.

Well it depends on how many mp the pictures are and how long the albums are. Yes it should be able to hold more, but if you have really long albums or really hi-def pictures then that will take up a lot of space.

Anywhere from 150-1000 pictures, depending on the quality (hence, megapixels). But, I've never had any problems because I just load them onto my computer/notebook and then erase em off the card.
