Why do English speaking Christians use the Greek name Jesus Christ?

Why don't we use Yeshua Messiah from Hebrew or some english version like Joshua Saviour? I guess Joshua Saviour doesn't have as good of a ring to it.

Actually it would be Joshua the Anointed, since "Christ" or "Messiah" means "Anointed One."

I guess it's for the same reason we call angels "angels" instead of "messengers" (the direct translation of angelos).

Because (1) English borrows heavily from Greek, but not much from Hebrew; and (2) for centuries western Christianity used the Septuagint, which was the first Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible.

The New Testament was originally written in the Greek.
Personally, I think the rendering Messiah is more appropriate than Christ in many passages of the New Testament; for example, Acts 17:3

Good question, but Iesous has to deal with specific gematria associations. Gematria is a numerical system of symbolism that belongs to the Greek and Hebrew alphabets. Therefore when translating the Hebrew Joshua into the Greek language, philosophers of the times used Gematria to determine a mystical name.

Greek is what the New Testament was written in, at least, that's the language it was converted to. Joshua isn't English, either.. But if I go to Germany, my name isn't gonna change. It's just different people of different cultures call God different names.

If you have a problem with them using the Greek name, why would the Hebrew name make a difference? Besides, J*sus spoke Aramaic, not Hebrew. Why don't you use the Aramaic name?

Actually, the Greek is Iesous Christos (Pronounced ee-ay-sooce' khris-tos')

In the English, we have kept a transliteration of Christ (which means "Anointed One," as opposed to Savior).

Savior in the Greek is "soter."

I didn't know there was an English name. For why we use the Greek name, I guess you'd have to go back to the first Bible translation to English was from Latin - so they probably just stuck with that Greco-Roman name written in Latin.
