No emotional pain or anything... just doing some brainstorming to find out what makes a person invisible?

Apply vanishing cream.
I guess it depends on your definition of "invisible".
One definition might be "not being seen".
The military uses camoflage clothing to blend in to the surroundings. They have been known to sneak in and out without being seen by the enemy.
Stealth aircraft have been specially designed to not appear on radar.
In the movie "Men in Black", agents J and K wore simple black suits and sunglasses so they went unnoticed. They just blended into the background.
How about turning off the lights? You will be invisible to others.

If you are in great emotional pain, admit this to yourself and seek help.
Then, you must become invisible in American society for admitting to emotional pain is the most severe cultural sin in America.

You'd have to stop reflecting light.
We "see" things because light bounces off of them and into our eyes. If the light doesn't bounce off of you, if it could go around you like the water around a rock in a stream, you'd be invisible.
The downside would be that if all the light was going around your body, none would be going into your eyes. You'd be invisible, but blind.

You know, in CHINA, they just invented some kind of High Tech Fabric that shows what's behind... wich means... if you are wearing a jacket made of it. People will see what's behind you, making you almost invisible...
I think it was made for ARMY porpouses...
