I need some snack ideas. I work a 9-5:30 job and don't get my lunch break until almost 2:00. I eat my breakfast a little before 8:30, so that's a long time to go without eating! I like to buy small snacks, such as Special K snack bars or 100 calorie packs, but I'm kind of sick of the same old thing. I need new ideas, both healthy veggies and just regular low calorie snacks that you can keep in the cupboard. I can bring bananas and baby carrots, but don't have a whole lot of other ideas. I need something easy and low calorie. I've seen some packages with already sliced apple pieces. Does anyone know if those are healthy or if because of all of the additivies if it's not good? Also, any ideas to get more fruits and veggies during each meal?

Sounds like we're mirror images of each other!! I work the same exact schedule as you, and take my lunch breaks at 2:00 also!

When I eat breakfast (if I have time in the morning), it's usually a bowl of oatmeal or cereal, but most of the time I don't have time to eat breakfast before work. I try to keep yogurt on hand at work, as well as snacks like fresh fruit (apples, banana's, and oranges fair well for a while) and canned fruit (peaches and pineapples). Sometimes I've got drinks like Slim Fast on hand also.

For midmorning snacking, I like to keep trail mixes on hand. The nuts add in protein while the dried fruit covers much needed sweetness and fruit servings.

For lunches, I like to stick with a small salad and some fruit. You can actually make great salads using fresh fruit and veges, then add in some sunflower seeds and walnuts for crunch and protein.

For on hand snacks, the baby carrots are great, but so are celery sticks, bell peppers, cucumbers, and apples. You can now buy small serving size packs of ranch dressing and peanut butter for dipping, as well as chocolate sauces. The apple slices in the bags are good, but you'll want to use them up fairly quickly because they will brown, even with the added preservatives. Hope this helps, and good luck with the healthy eating!!

A healthy snack should have high fiber carbs + protein just like a decent meal because a snack is a meal of convenience.

Get an insulated lunch box and pack things like:
Yogurt + fruit,
cottage cheese + raisins
leftovers from a healthy dinner yesterday.

You can even use a thermos to bring a cold protein drink.

i have the same problem for school... i have a really late lunch hour and live pretty far from school. so here's some of my ideas...
special k bars
special k bites
a baggy of cheerios (mixed with raisons)
any other kind of cereal you like in a baggy
mini-dried fruit boxes (sunmaid makes raisons, dried prunes, dried cranberries, etc.)
low fat granola bars
kashi bars
100 calorie packs (they have these in everything imaginable from wheat thins, to chex mix, doritoes, ANYTHING)
baked chip bags
light and fit yogurt smoothies
light and fit yogurts
carrot/celery/brocolli/cauiflower packages
apple/fruit packages
luna bars are great (but are 170 calories per bar even if they do contain TONS of vitamins and minerals)

as for adding fruits and veges... just be sure to have a vege, fruit, or both with EVERY meal. even if you just open a can of peas or pineapple at dinner. it's always great just to have some fresh fruit or veges on hand in the fridge for a little hunger craving between meals too.

you could bring grapes, those are easy to eat and have lots of antioxidants. You could also get some healthy crackers, there's a lot out there if you look (try to get the natural kinds, tho, they're better for you)
to get more fruits and veggies in a meal, make your meal a salad. There's lots of yummy things you can add to a salad. (raisens, almonds, shredded carrots, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, sliced ham ripped into little pieces, basically anything!)

Do not devour thhoes crappy one hundred calorie snack packs they're very dangerous for you consume vegatables and fruits cuz most are not up to one hundred calories anyway you will free extra weight if you eat muktiple fruits and veggies as snacks at lunch as an alternative than full ingredients

Fruit would usually be the best snack between meals, due to the non-filling aspects of eating something that is grown rather than a dead snack bar.
Also fruit has the fibre and nutrients that devitalised snacks doesn't have
