Honda Civic is most fun. Toyota Corolla is cheapest to operate and will last the longest. Unfortunately, no cheap American car is worthy of praise.

For a 1000-2000 your not gonna get much :/ I bought my Fiero for 900 but it was off a friend. So if you know any of your buddies selling a car ask them, and ALWAYS wheel and deal your way to a lower price, you never know if they will go lower or not. My car was originally 1000 but I talked him down which put 100 in my pocket. But I would go with a nice V-6 mid sized four door car that is good on gas and cheap with insurance. It may not look the coolest but you'll be happier each end of the month. Cars like this are Honda Civic/Accords, Toyota's, and some Pontiacs just to name a few. You'll probably end up with a late 80's to 90's vehicle of course so start shopping online and try www.craigslist.org

You won't like my answer, but here it is. Look for the car with the weakest engine you can find. Coincidentally, it will also be cheaper. Here's why.

When I was a teen, all of my friends were getting cool cars like Camaros, Mustangs and such. Cars that were fun to drive and had power. I was not so fortunate and wound up with an underpowered Ford Pinto. As a result, I never developed the aggressive driving habits they did, because my car simply wasn't capable of it. It took something like 13.5 seconds to go zero to 60.

Every one of them wrecked their first cars within 2 years. Not me. I drove that thing for 10 years with only 1 minor ding in the front bumper. An underpowered car will force you to not become an aggressive driver.

Even today, I've had 3 cars with big engines, and I still drive like I'm driving an underpowered Pinto. Those first couple of years build how you will drive for life.

Its best to buy new but if buying a used car find out if they would take the car to your own selected mechanic ( not associated with them to look at )
When chosing cars as Hondas Volvos just keep in mind as they are considered imports when something goes wrong the parts are far more expensive then domestic .As I have had many cars .mazda's,fords, pontiacs etc I actually have found that my Grand Am(6 cyl) was the most reliable .In every used car something will eventually go wrong ...lol even with new cars.so as I might suggest when buying go with an older family adult member as some dishonest people look at your age and knowing that at your age you don't have much of a buying experience will try and take advanatge of you .
PS worst experience was ford!!! STAY AWAY ..that I can warn you ...I once had a thunder bird turbo coupe.A ford dealer ship tryed to take advanatge of me by replacing my turbo and gaved me back the car in the same condition after I advised them my friend told me it was the computer !!! I called ford's corp head office and they actually told me that year they had purchased the engines from Volkswagon so their mechanics are not experienced on their own product they placed their name on .They refused to refund me any money for selling me a part that did not need changing ! The ford dealership treated me like crap being I was a girl and at that time very young as well.I did get resolution after I called in the newspaper !!!! And also my dad who did labour and pricing what it normally would cost ( to prove on top of this they overcharged me ) With tthe public involved they gaved me back a refund ...oh yeah I forgot that ford dealership actually said to me why am I complaining ...I got a new part in my car and new parts are always good ...lol for 2500 I did not need a new part when my old one was working fine ...
All in all stay away from FORDS !!!!!!!!!

LOL their is a saying

F -found
O-on
R- Road
d- Dead
:)
PS ..I purchased a new chrysler(sebring ) hmmm honestly I won't by a chrylsler again but they are better than what they use to be.The grand am I gaved my mom when I purchased my new car is still running good

Try to look for a certified used car like a 2002 Ford Focus or Chevy Cobalt...2001Chevy Malibu

Dont get stuck with a civic or corolla...they cant even get out of thier own way...they are not fun...they are embarressments!
