Let me explain the paradox:

You say the earth is 6000 years old (roughly).

Yet modern science insists that the vast majority of observations of geology and astrophysics insist the universe is billions of years old.

Your answer tends to be something like "it just looks that way, but it isn't really."

Sometimes you even say that God made it that way in order to trick us. Could God do that if he wanted to? Sure.

But here's the problem:

If God can trick you into thinking a 6000 year old world was billions of years old by "faking it," what's to say he hasn't gone further?

How do you know that all history before your birth isn't also a fabrication, meant to trick you? If God can fake one, he could fake the other.

Heck, God could go right to the source, your own memories and experiences. How do you know LAST WEEK even happened? He could have faked your memories there too.

Knowing that the same answer justifying an "old" universe leads to such a vexing problem, how to you resolve it?

Because that is not what anyone said: We don't know how long God's creative day is. Some days he said were a 1000 years long. others were maybe millions or even billions of years long. The earth took a long time to be created we are aware of that and no one says any different.
One scientist said "this rock strata is so many billions of years old." This other scientists brought out that an ice age or even a catacysmic flood with tons of water pressure could have a bareing on how old this rock is? The man replied "Oh yes that is a guess." so much for exact science.
I heard that just the other day.
But what they did say was by going back through the bible he lived so long and he was the son of and he lived so long and then using exact events we know occured in history they were able to tell how long man kind has been on the earth.
6000 years in 1975 I was empressed with there dilligent work. Scientists all agree that in relationship to the earth man has only been here a shot time.
that is all the creationists said was that man has only been on the earth a short time in comparrison to how long the world has been here.
But, when you want to win a point you take it out of context and then say look how smart I am. I have proven them wrong.
Wait until you face your maker and have to explain why you thought you were so smart. Remember that haughtness is before a fall. Gee you win there is no God and this life is all there is and in a very short time you are going to die and return to the dust and that is the end of it all.
Does that make you happy? That is one agrument I wouldn't want to win.
If creationist is right we are going to live forever in a beautiful paradise. I just can't see why that sounds so terrible to you?

Its interesting that you want to try to disprove the facts about creation. God made the world & all things in the world. Was any 1 there to witness how old He might have made things appear? 6500 yrs is about as accurate as you will get & when you goto the Great Flood of Noah(this could be confusing for some) God did very miraculous things(the fountains of the deep had burst open) all of the dinos that walked the earth were destroyed, He makes everything to grow according to how He wills. For instance the layers that are near the North pole has lots of people wrong. If or when you here the truth about it then it gets easier to understand, the layers up there according to some scientists is that 1 layer happens per year which is false because when there was people that were asked about how many layers formed per year they said sometimes there would be 7 or 8(ice melt ice) even there are trees that were frozen @ an instance 300 feet high that some scientists drilled into that can't be explained. Except the Great Flood, please do research when looking, it will be opened unto you if you will but seek God & His righteousness.

Another question concerning the age of the Earth might be : Why, if God has existed forever, did he decide to do something just in the last 6000 years?
Seems to me, that there is more chance of God being 6000 years old, and people are just getting confused.

I just had a friend, who's a trained engineer tell me that he thought the earth was 6-10K years old. His argument to me was that he had the same education as I did. He figured that since we had the same education, that our opinions were equally valid.

Now- I didn't want to get into a fight with him- but inside I was only thinking... he couldn't possibly have had the same education I had. There wasn't any wiggle room in my education to allow for such ridiculous claims.

so- I'm not sure I can help you. I don't think there is anything you can say.

How old is recorded history?

Scientific results can be skewed by preconceived notions. I can pull out many proofs that the earth is only seconds old - based on the radioactive deacy of particular short lived isotopes.

Recorded history cannot cannot be skewed by a preconceived notion.

How old is civilization? When did man first start recording events?

These questions will point to an unbiased timeline.

Yes, how do you know the world existed before you were born......maybe you are the only one on earth that matters, the rest of us are just actors on a stage playing out your life.....have you considered that? And all of the universe was created as a backdrop for your life. Have you run into people you knew in weird far away places? That is because there aren't enough of us actors to go around, and God has to re-use us in other locations to make the earth look populated. We can't wait for you to die, so we can stop all this acting.

Modern science's "observations" are based on the pre-conceived notion of evolution. I don't ever recall hearing of scientists making claims of millions of years before evolution became the hub of their belief system.

We all know how unreliable carbon 14 dating is. I am not going to give examples here, but it is only accepted if it fits with their expectations. Otherwise, it is rejected.

There are a few dozen other systems, most of which give a relatively young age for the Earth, but they are rejected because they contradict evolution.

So much for the search for the truth!

There actually aren't a lot of people who believe that the earth is 6,000 years old. Most young-earthers believe in 12,000, each Biblical day as 1,000 years.

Anyone with those beliefs should just test them immediately. Step 1: Kill yourself. Step 2: You will now be in hell, someone there will know the correct answer to these questions. Step 3: Report back to us in this q/a if possible.
