I've been to a variety of Christian churches, but I never encountered speaking in tounges. I've only heard people's accounts of it, and mostly it was from non-denominational members.

Can you tell me what denominations do this?
In those churches, does it take place on a regular basis?
Can people speak in tounges in their home/other place or is it usually at church?

It's mostly Pentecostal, Church of God, and Assembly of God, but there are also non-denominational churches that do. Some Baptists and Methodists also do in private prayer at home, but usually it is discouraged at their churches.

Mostly, it's the Pentecostal churches. Some of the so-called "non-denominational" churches do it, as well. There's a charismatic movement that has swept across denominational lines (there are charismatic Catholics who speak in tongues, for instance). Some pray in tongues at home, and some do it in church. I'm not Pentecostal, but have visited many Pentecostal churches, and speaking in tongues seems to be fairly frequent within those churches.

Assemblys of God do this regularly,
Pentecost assembly's, groups, (insert name) do this.
I still speak in tongues and I'm a medium.
Many say this is from the devil. WEll so be it, because I brought peace to peoples lives.
Usually after a sermon a preacher who is sensitive to the Holy Spirits leading will let a calm settle on the congregation.. Then someone will start to speak.
Yes speak in tongues at home. It doesn't matter. The translation is usually within a day or two of what you have spoken.

I'm Pentecostal and speak in tongues all the time...sometimes when I'm driving....Most pentecostal churches that believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Some pentecostal churches include: Assemblies of God (which is what I am); Church of God in Christ. (COGIC), 4 Square, and Vineyard.....at the moment that's all I can think of but I think there are more.

I attended a Baptist church when I was about seven. I was scared to death when these (I think it was two different people) started speaking "in tongues." I think it was two, I was too afraid to turn around, but it sounded like different voices talking to each other.
I don't know if I'm spelling this stuff right, but it sounded to me like:
yed yut but see kudi i kudi i kudi i
they just kept repeating it over and over.
I only went once or twice to that church, I am 41, and I was so scared that still can hear them say those words.

All denominations that believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit believe in the gifts and that includes tongues.

Now, it is a prayer language so it is not necessarily done publicly, however, if it is used in Prophecy..with interpretation, then it is done publicly.
4Square Churches believe and practice it..there are many others.

1 Cor. 14:1 "For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people wouldn't be able to understand you, you will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious." Pentecostals speak in tongues. One can speak in tongues at home, work or even driving in you car..... it is spiritual.

It's supposed to be Pentecostals, just as it was called back when the Holy Spirit fell on the disciples. But it is available to all who believe.
