I've been to some churches where they celebrate it every week and some that do it once a quarter.
Which denominations celebrate what? And When?
Why do they do this? And what does the Bible say about it?

"And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight." (Acts 20:7)

The early church celebrated the Lord's Supper on the first day of every week.

Every week has a first day. The wording of this verse is similar to the command in the Old Testament that on the seventh day they were to keep the Sabbath. They realized that every week had a seventh day, so they kept the sabbath every week.

This is also similar to 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 where it says "on the first day of the week" that they were to take up a collection. Very few churches have a problem taking up a collection every Sunday.

Some say that if the Lord's Supper is taken every week that it looses its meaning because it becomes too commonplace. With this line of reasoning, should we not pray as often, or sing as often, or study our Bible as often, or should we have church services only once a year so that our worship does not get too routine?

If taking the Lord's Supper looses its meaning, it is not because we are taking it too often! If any part of our worship becomes too routine, we should examine our heart! The solution is not to worship less often, but to re-focus our hearts toward giving honor to God!

Why not follow the example recorded for us in Acts 20:7? The Lord's Supper is one of the main reasons early Christians met together on Sunday!

The Lord's Supper was celebrated based on the original Jewish passover which was an annual observance. Nisan 14 (on the Jewish lunar calendar) was yesterday - (from sundown April 2 to sundown April 3). Yesterday was the actual day corresponding to when Jesus was executed.

I am Jehovah's Witness - since the Passover was celebrated annually (which is how Jesus celebrated it) we follow his pattern and celebrate it on that exact day. Nothing is added to or taken away from the pattern that he set for his disciples.

Luke 22:19 states: "Keep doing this in remembrance of me".

We celebrate the memorial of his death because he commanded it and even more so, out of deep respect for the tremendous sacrifice that he gave.

Why would you only celebrate communion once a year. Jesus said "Do this in memory of me." More than a feast is to be remembered on that day. Jesus knew of his trial and his death. Jesus wants use to constantly remember what occured on that day. There is no particular day nor time that this should take place. Personally I want to keep Jesus's life constantly on my mind so I can successfully do god's will. Passover is a period that was created by the church for us to place special emphasis on the events leading into the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Everything that Jesus has done should be remembered on a daily basis. If that means I need to receive communion, be humble, accept humility, or love my neighbor as love myself everyday then I will..I will do this for my chance to make it to heaven. Would you....

Jesus instituted the Lord's Evening Meal on the occasion of the Passover. The Passover was an annual celebration. So Jehovah's Witnesses commemorate Jesus' death annually on Nisan 14, which began yesterday at sundown.

The Lord's Supper is designed to commerate the life and work of the Lord. In spiritual terms, we are connected with Jesus and therefore God when we partake in the sacrament. The main benefit to the meal is to re-charge your spirit and to be fortified for the challenges life imposes. As long as you are mindful of the significance of the bread and wine as the body and blood of Christ, there really isn't such a thing as too often.

Jesus institued the memorial of his death during the Jewish passover, which was a yearly celebration. Nowhere does Jesus say to celebrate it more or less often. Thus we as Jehovah's Witnesses celebrate it yearly.
