I've always wondered what people do if they are racing to the hospital to have a baby and a cop wants them to pull over. Do you take a bullhorn with you and tell them your wife is in labor? Do you pull over and wait the hundred years it takes them to come over and talk to you? I just want to know if anyone has any experience with this or any ideas. Thanks!

Very rarely do you need to be speeding to the hospital, especially for a first baby. (With my son they told me to go to the hospital when I couldn't stand the pain anymore, I wasn't even halfway dilated when we got there.) New moms are notorious for over reacting as soon as they feel contractions. After the first baby, women usually know themselves well enough to know when they need to leave for the hospital. Unless you can see the head, follow the speed limit and you won't have to explain to a cop that your wife is in labor.

You would pull over and im sure he will help when he finds out your wife is in labor. He would probably lead the way in getting you to the hospital. If your wife was already in labor, he would assist in the delivery of the baby until the ambulance would get there. And it would be a good thing that a policeman did pull you over at a time like this. bettyk

For starters, you shouldn't be "racing" to the hospital. Despite popular opinion, your wife and/or significant other and/or that thar random chick that be pregnant is probably not going to launch in your backseat within the hour. Movies show this frequently, but this has become more of an urban myth than a truth.

Further, should that happen, you should be able to pull over and explain the situation to the officer. If he still acts like an jerk, here's a simple solution. Let him write the ticket. Then ask him to escort you to the hospital so it doesn't happen again.

If he doesn't comply, ask if he can at least call an ambulance. If he STILL doesn't comply, wait until he pulls away, calmly proceed to the hospital, then document EVERYTHING that occurred. You'll easily be able to fight the ticket in court. Plus, does it make you look bad or him in this instance?

I think you had better pull over. That cop has no way of knowing what's going on in that car. If you don't pull over they are liable to force you over or bump your rear end and spin you out. When you do finally stop there will be a bunch of cops with guns in your face yelling for you to get on the ground. The fact that you are driving your pregnant wife to the hospital is not going to be the first possibility that comes to their minds.

On the other hand, if you pull over, REMAIN CALM and explain the situation. They will most likely send you on your way and may even clear the road ahead for you.

if you are really close to the hospital then keep going and let him follow you into the parking lot.

If you have a ways to go and you don't want a chase like O.J. then I suggest that you pull over and as soon as the officer gets to the window let him in on the news and he will most likely escort you the rest of the way.

No point in risking all you lives before the little tyke even gets here. There shouldn't be a reason for a cop to pull you over in the first place.

There is no need to break any laws to get to the hospital. Make sure you have plenty of time to get there.,not as she is crowning. You pull over and explain that she is in labor. Call the hospital before you get there. The cop will call the hospital to verify that you aren't telling a story. You might be escorted there.

If you are directed to pull over, you pull over.

99.5% likely the baby is still hours away from delivery and your 'race' to the hospital is just your own panic.

However...

If it IS an emergency, the officer will most likely escort you to the hospital with lights and sirens.

Running red lights and speeding to get your wife to the hospital on your own just makes you a hazard to every other driver on the road. Let the officer clear your path.

You pull over, quickly let the cop know what's happening and will probably get a police escort to the hospital.
