they no longer nail down the coffin lid, it is now pressurized and the seal it, the they lay a vault on top of that to keep the casket somewhat preserved....not sure why....but nails are no longer used!!!

In case the coffin gets dropped. The body will not suffer the indignity of being exposed and tumbled in the sight of the loved ones.

um so when the sickos come out and decide they want to steal a body they cant cause the coffins are nailed shut. also when people die their family members sometimes put items of that person in the box with them. like when my brother died we put the things he loved most and like all the money he made from working.. so yea
