Why do security gaurds and police always talk as if they have an attitude problem?

One would assume that working in the police, they are used to criminal behaviour and yet they still excessivily annoyed about the action the criminal commits.

They all talk funny, a bit like teenagers trying to be cool with thier mates.

They have a tendancy to yell about anything that is not right.

They even seem to have a tendancy to swear or curse and get violent and abusive back.

It is like they love the sense of control they have over criminals?

What do you think is going on there?

You are right, some police have attitude problems.

Yes, some even undermine their authority and exercise little discernment when speaking to people.

The above police officer is not the rule though. They are the exception in my opinion. The typical officers I know are highly respected by all who know them. Sometimes though, especially for those in high crime areas, police are quicker with their temper and much more edgy. I would be interested in knowing what city and state each of you are from, or what city you have bad experiences in.

I call it the police culture. They say that there is a certain "calling" a person gets for becoming a police officer. I sure would like to know exactly what that calling is. I suggest it is the need to be in control and to catch "bad guys" - perhaps the universal term for criminals in the police culture. "Bad guys" to me is a rather simple, childish couple of words used to keep the cops focused and motivated.

I would also like to address the police here with the hypothetical I used in a previous answer:

How much are police the "good guys" if a lot of the civilian population doesn't trust them?

I'm sorry, I should not have taken over your question. I have very strong feelings about law enforcement. Even this incident in Atlanta's Omni Hotel doesn't sway my view. You can see the photo of a muscular security guard with his rifle still aimed on the fallen gunman.

You get a star from me.

Three swine thumbs down? Is that all?

Three little pigs.... and four's a charm.

Most security guards are people who do not possess the intellect to become a police officer although they dream of doing so. Working security is as close as they're ever going to get and many do get an attitude. The general consensus among officers is that security guards are buffoons....and they assumption is usually correct.

It is possible that there are some security guards who do want to be police and are over zealous to prove their worth. In my small city most all security officers are current or retired police officers. Businesses approach the Police about working their places off-duty for extra income.

As far as penis size, sounds like the accuser has some personal doubts about themselves or feels the need to try to insult so he can " be in control".

the reason they act that way is because they deal with the worst kind of people that there are in the world and they have to act that way around those people. so the first time they meet someone they will act that way just in case that person is a but head. but if you are courteous and comply to them they will be nicer to you

I could have written your question myself. Unfortunately I have had a lot of the same experiences.

Maybe they're trying to compensate for a small penis, or they were abused or bullied in school or something and now they feel they have the right to take their anger out on the world.

Edit: And from the amount of thumbs-down I've gotten, I must have hit a nerve with cops and rent-a-cops, because they know I'm right! LOL And Retired Cop, I mean Sgt., I don't *have* a penis. I'm a female. But thank you for proving my point about the mentality of cops!!!
