hemp or industrial hemp comes from the same plant family as pot/marijuna... canibas sativa. but hemp has no or very little (less than .04%) THC which the substance that gives you a "high" when smoking. Hemp and pot look very different. Hemp is very tall and looks more like bamboo, has long leaves and not much of a flower or seeds. Pot is much smaller. Hemp is used to make many different products... hemp seeds are used for making soap, shampoo, face cream, body lotion as well as food items such as flour, pasta, oil, and energy bars. The stalk or fibers of the hemp plant are used to make twine, rope, fabric for automobiles, composits similar to plastic, wood board, as well as clothing, hats, handbags, backpacks and paper. There are roughly 20,000 different products made with hemp. Hemp is grown leagally in most parts of the world except in the US, but it is perfectly legal to import hemp in any form and sell in the US. It's also the only product that is illegal to grow in the US, but legal to import. Some of the largest hemp producing countries are Canada, Germany, China, Thailand and Nepal. Hemp was grown by George Washington and was a major US crop until roughly 1937, then was brought back into production during WWII to make roap for ships. Several states have passed laws making it legal to grow hemp, but the Federal Gov't has not issued the permits necessary to allow farmers to grow hemp. Hopefully this will change one day. Hope this helps...
