Call or go to the Dr.'s office that you would like to use for the pediatrician. Tell the receptionist that you would like to have Dr. whoever as your child's pediatrician. The people who work at the pediatrician's office will be able to tell you if he/she is taking new patients. They also will help you make an appointment if necessary. And they may want to register your due date because they like to have an attending pediatrician at the birth as well as your doctor. Hope this helps you. Good Luck!

You don't have to say anything. I had medicaid for both my pregnancies but for my first I honestly didn't even think about the pediatrician, I was clueless but when the baby was born I think it was that same day or the next that the pediatrician showed up in my room with the nurse who had been attending to me and I liked her so much I continued seeing her and for my second I already knew that I wanted the same pediatrician so i put her down. Of course you have to make sure they accept medicaid. I think they assign you one if you don't have one by the time the baby is born. Hope this helps.

You can choose your own pediatrician or you can just use the ones that come to the hospital and do the babys first check-up. If you have no experience with pediatricians I would suggest sticking to the same ones that do your babys checkup in the hospital. You wont have to call them at all before your baby is born. They come to you at the hospital! They will give you all the information after your baby is born and before you leave the hospital. They will tell you to come to their office a few days after the baby is born. You dont really have to do anything except get the info they give you and go to the office when they tell you.
If you want a different pediatrician you will have to call them and tell them you are looking for a pediatrician.
good luck and congratulations!

Your family doctor could also be your child's pediatrician. S/he will probably examine your baby within 24 hours of birth, right there in the hospital. You just tell the hospital who you've chosen for your baby's doctor, and they'll take care of the rest. Or you could ask your OB how it's done. Good luck!

If you have a ped already picked out, just call and confirm that they are accepting new patients.

When you are in the hospital, you can use the ped on-call.

Just call them and tell them when you are due and ask them if they are taking new patients.
