Check this out, from Wikipedia- it's sited:
A 2006 study by researchers at the University of Minnesota involving a poll of 2,000 households in the United States found atheists to be the most distrusted of minorities, more so than Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians, and other groups.
Many of the respondents associated atheism with immorality, including criminal behaviour, extreme materialism, and elitism.
However, the same study also reported that, “The researchers also found acceptance or rejection of atheists is related not only to personal religiosity, but also to one’s exposure to diversity, education and political orientation — with more educated, East and West Coast Americans more accepting of atheists than their Midwestern counterparts.”

we are not a minority, the latest poll i saw showed over 16% which is a high number compared to others. but polls don't tell the story, since you can rig polls to say anything you want. it all depends on the wording and they never seem to show that. it also depends on who you ask. most people overall are simply under educated in what it means to be atheist and the spin they put on it. if they actually met someone, that was an atheist, they would not know it until they mentioned it. by then they already like the person. ask those same people - what is an atheist. and you will get a laundry list of myths and idiocies, just like the stuff you see here. many think we are in league with the devil - because they follow under educated idiots themselves.

It might be best to say that, of all the groups sampled, Atheists are the least understood, and receive the least exposure. People always have a greater rejection of what they don't understand, and Atheists are no exception.
Because of this, it's no surprise that people who have been most exposed to Atheism and were well-educated are among the more-accepting branches of society. Anybody who understands the concept and sees Atheists in day-to-day life sees that we aren't a bunch of anarchistic hedonists who threaten the world. Rather, we have our hopes, dreams, and fears; that we love and are loved; that we have hobbies, and tend to be productive in day-to-day life. Most of us are normal, run-of-the-mill people; we just don't believe that there's a god.

I've heard this before, elsewhere.
I believe it to be true.
Honestly, I'm not that surprised. Just look at the opinions of many Christians on this site of the atheists, and you'll see why.
In their eyes, anyone who doesn't believe in God must obviously be planning the mass murder of millions, while fantasizing about orgies in a holy Temple.
Truth be told, the fact that they think religion is the ONLY thing preventing wanton, destructive behavior makes ME a little nervous about being around THEM.

I trust them more than I trust myself.
If you knew anything about statistics, which you probably don't, then you would know that these results probably are biased. It is called response bias. Some of the participants probably were atheist and did not want to put themselves at risk for any danger from religious people. They wanted to protect their reputations. That alone disproves your implied suggestion.

Is this even a question? You must have too much time on your hands to be concerning yourself with this.
Here's a thought; take the time you use sitting around and adding up the points you think your religion has over others's personal beliefs and do something helpful or meaningful.

Once upon a time all the world thought the earth was flat too--popularity of a belief has nothing to do with the facts.

Hmmm....that is interesting. May be that they took into account the race, education, and political stance, but all of those tend to be the about the same in the Bible belt.....

You think we suck?!!?!Lmao when i was a baby some yahoo stuck a bomb in my moms abortion center and had to be defused. She had to testify so they came to our house one of the protesters was screaming I'm going to kill your baby! which was me my mom said she was frozen in terror my dad came running out with a .45 and shot him in the head. My mom was holding me and the guy was running towards her and she had a knife. That bastard. so yes we are disliked because we are fiercely independent and dont agree with religions and we are to open minded for them to understand. They are the one who want to take away women's rights blow up abortion centers and yet they try to kill an infant in the anger against something they hate. Just like ted hagred hypocrites

Personally, I don't think that this is accurate. I am not calling you a liar, I am just saying I don't believe the poll at Wikioedia. BTW, I am a Christian.
