If I have good credit and my fiancee has bad credit if I change my last name to his I will get bad credit too. Is that true? What does the changing of last names have to do with your credit score?

By law, credit bureaus must maintain SEPARATE credit reports. If you apply for joint accounts, only the activity on those accounts will affect both of you. Any accounts in your husbands name alone will not affect your score.

No, changing your name does not mean you will get bad credit. The only way the bad credit under your fiancee will show up under your credit report is if he adds you to his accounts. If he does that then it will report as a joint tradeline and the negative debt will show then.

Changing your name doesn't affect your credit score at all. Neither does getting married.

Your credit follows your social security number. If you don't open or apply for any joint accounts with your future husband, it should not affect your credit.
