Is there a way to dye your hair extreme colors without bleaching?

I have naturally very dark brown hair and I want to dye my hair an unnatural color... but I'm not sure I want to bleach my hair, is there any other way to dye it (and have the color actually show) without terribly harsh chemicals?
I've tried Manic Panic before and it was barely noticable.

Yep, no way to get those sharp colors without some type of lightening. However there are one process colors that lighten and deposit at the same time. You can get a RED RED from Loreal at Sally beauty supply you mix it with 30 vol. peroxide.

The other colors you need to get at a salon. Wella makes colors for the professionals to use called Magma that is a single process (one proc.) color. Check it out ! Then call around and find a salon to do it. Wella is much better color for you hair btw. Loreal can be harsh. If your hair is short and cut frequently you can use the harsher stuff.

Well if you want to dye your hair a color thats unatural without bleaching it then you have to pick a color that is the same shade of your hair or darker. For example a dark navy blue or dark pink. The lighter your hair color the brighter the color will be. You can also try that spray on color that washes off the next shampoo. Good luck

to have the intense color you have to bleach ...otherwise all your doing is using a colored toner on your hair ..basically it will be dark , with a colored highlight ....however , that being said , let me say that manic panic has a color , "alpine green" , that works pretty well even on dark locks .... its more intense than most out there ,but still not that over the top color . If you want the shock value of truly outrageous hair , you need to bleach...
