Woods is of mixed race. Historically, in American society whites have traditionally rejected mixed race offspring as black (i.e. 1/8th rule).

It is like it is with all sports the common phrase "the first black..." (finish the sentence) Tiger woods is a great golfer and so what if he had a African American father and an Asian mother. Some people really need to open up to how just because your a certain race, ethnicity, or creed doesn't mean the person has to be known as the "only black golfer" in the Tiger Woods golfer. Tiger Woods is one of the best golfers in the PGA, also the PGA is not only caucasian people there is a mix of golfers Stuart Appleby is Australian, Vijay Singh is a dark skin pigment. It is basic stereotyping. Look at last years super bowl Chicago Bears VS. The Inndianopolis Colts two black coaches for the first time, it is great that America has progressesd from the racism that plagued the African AMerican commmunity. A very good question, why must we look at eachother in terms of skin color that is what you should ask yourself.
Awesome Question!

The answer is: Tiger is NOT black. What about his Thai mother? He is half African American and half Thai-American. Is anyone asking where are all the Thai-American Golfers because of Tiger? I find it ridiculous that if someone is part black or African, they are suddenly representative of ALL Africans - and their non-black roots suddenly cease to exist. By the way, since genetic testing has become available, we may all be a bit surprised at what lies hidden in our ancestry.
Meanwhile, let's get over the race/ethnicity question, and look at what it takes to make a great golfer. Let's work on building skills, providing opportunities, nurturing young people, to create more great golfers of all races and ethnic groups.

WHAT IS BLACK/BLACK? Irregardless of your racial makeup people are classified as one thing or the other;this is only an issue if the person has part black heritage - being part black is common like Derek Jeter,Alicia Keys,Halle Berry,Joakim Noah etc. Your question is racist to the core is Phil Mickelson white/white, off-white,lily-white, pasty-white or what he has a diverse ethnicity but you're not questioning it.

Who cares? What is up with the color thing. I thought most well educated people were over all this. I don't care if someone is pink with red dots on them. If people can't get past the color they have an extremely large problem.
I just don't know. It is very tiring to put up with all of it.
