By definition an HDTV is one that supports some high-definition resolution such as 720p, 1080i or 1080p. To "get HD", you need a source that outputs in a resolution that your TV supports.

Some examples:
ATSC Tuner (all new HDTVs come with them)
HDTV-capable cable box
Upscaling DVD player (e.g. Oppo 971H)
HD-DVD or Blu Ray player
Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 video game console
PC that plays high-def videos

In addition, those sources must output in a format supported by your HDTV. For example, 720p can be supported by component video or HDMI or DVI.

And yes, Samsung is a good brand, if a little expensive.

If you get a TV with a built-in ATSC tuner, all you need is an antenna (if you don't already use one for regular TV). You need to be able to receive both VHF and UHF bands. Depending on where you are, an indoor antenna might work.
