I pointed an ex-boyfriend's gun at someone years ago. My dear friend got mixed up with an abusive jerk, and dragged her out of a public place by her hair. NO ONE said a word, so I jumped into the truck and followed them home. They got there a little before I did, and I could hear him yelling and her crying. I got the gun out and knocked on the door with the barrel.

I hope I'm never in that situation again - I was terrified - but I wasn't about to let him hurt her. Cell phones weren't widely available here back then, and I wasn't about to stop to call the cops.

Yep. I was working as a cashier at a supermarket in Alabama when a man came in and tossed a pack of Grape Kool-Aid on the conveyor. At the time, I was being trained as a cashier by a girl who was standing right next to me. As soon as I rung it up and opened the drawer, he pulled a gun, held it to my head, and was mumbling about having to go to Texas in between telling me to get the cash out of the drawer and hand it to him. Got away with about 200 bucks. I was let go the next day because I was only 15 at the time and they didn't want managment getting wind of it. Such was the end of my first job, just two months after I had started. However, the cashier experience landed me a job later making 2 more dollars an hour!

Just once in Police work. Was a bar shooting. Shooter was outside going to his car on my arrival. He had a small caliber revolver, I had a shotgun. Faced off at about 40 feet. My gun apparently was big enough so he put his down when told to do so. Amazing how time slowed down and how many different thoughts came to mind before it was over. I was already squeezing the trigger when he put his gun down. Turned out no one was hurt inside or out. I didn't even have to go home to change my pants. ( which was quite amazing in itself)

No, thankfully. The closest I ever came was being in a grocery store when it was being robbed, but fortunately I was some distance away from the "action." That's about as close as I care to get.
