Requena is a black bird that feeds on seeds laid on the fields. In the common tradition, seeing these birds brings bad luck.
It is also a common surname in Castille, and the name of various villages around that area (Requena de Campos...), most of them of Roman origin (the word comes from Requiem Aena, or "bird of death").

It seems it is a toponymyc name, as it derives from the name of place. In this case from a town in the province of Valencia, famous by its wine.
