Some causes of lactose intolerance are well known. Primary lactase deficiency is a condition that develops over time. After about age 2 the body begins to produce less lactase, though most people will not notice symptoms until they are much older.

Secondary lactase deficiency occurs when injury to the small intestine or certain digestive diseases reduce the amount of lactase a person produces. These diseases include celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and Crohn’s disease.

People who do not have enough lactase to digest the amount of lactose they consume may feel very uncomfortable when they digest milk products. Common symptoms, which range from mild to severe, include nausea, cramps, bloating, gas, and diarrhea. Symptoms begin about 30 minutes to 2 hours after eating or drinking foods containing lactose. The severity of symptoms depends on many factors, including the amount of lactose a person can tolerate and a person’s age, ethnicity, and digestion rate.

There is no such thing as lactose and tolerant.
What you mean is Lactose Intolerant, Which means your body can't digest the lactose aka milke sugar in your GI tract.

If you are lactose intolerant you would have gas pains and bloating after eating dairy products. It can also cause diarrhea. It can cause a lot of stomach and intestional pain.

I became lactose intolerent ten years ago and I am 56 years old. I use a milk called Lactaid, at most grocery stores. There are also pills you can buy at the store that help you digest milk sugar. I take one when I eat ice cream or anything dairy.

Now that the other answerers have made it clear what you heard (2 words, not one), I think you might benefit from a little more information. Lactose is not milk, it is the sugar that's naturally in whole milk. (Most words words in biology ending in "-ose" are sugars.) Your body's intolerance for this can be approached by two remedies that I know of: You can consume the enzymes you need when you're having dairy products, or you can have milk that has the lactose removed. I think you should talk to a doctor (or a pharmacist) about where the enzymes are sold; the milk with lactose removed should be available in larger supermarkets labeled as lactose-free. As long as you're going to talk to a doctor, ask if skim milk or low-fat (1%) milk is okay for you. There may be varying levels of this intolerance.

I think what you mean to say is how to tell if your lactose intolerant. I am, mine showed when I would urinate the urine has what looked like flakes of aspirin in it. Also it would feel funny when urinating similar to having an infection and I would have sometimes a funny feeling of the bladder. My doctor tested the urine and found that I was lactose intolerent and now I take lactose digestive pills.

Its called Lactose intolerance. Avoid milk and milk products like ice cream and cheese for a day or so and see if you feel any better. If you get gassy or diahrea when you eat or drink dariy, you may have an intolerance to lactose. I take Lactaid when I have dairy or I use vanilla soy milk on my cereal.

my sister is lactose intolerant. she would get extreamly bad stomach cramps after eating anything with dairy. i suggest that you cut dairy out of your diet for a week and see if your symptoms persist. if you feel much better after a week the chances are that you are lactose intolerant. there pills you can take before you eat and it helps you digest the lactose in foods so you can still enjoy foods with dairy. her doctor told her that even with the pill she should avoid milk and ice cream because they have large amounts of lactose.
