The extremely childish notion that the modern bibles, written in English, accurately reflect the true meaning inherent in the originals, written in very different languages by people of very different cultures so long ago. For example, the story Adam and Eve is, although far from convincing, extremely profound when read in the original. In English, it is nothing more than a naive children's story. Unbelievable, don't you think, that people can delude themselves into thinking that they understand from these children's stories the original meaning supposedly from god.

Rather than me doing a poor job of it, here's a book that does a great job. "Misquoting Jesus" (sorry don't remember the author) Written by a former theological student and fundamentalist Christian who discovered thousands of inconsistencies, most inconsequential, but some not, as he studied the Bible intending to find the exact opposite, the inerrant word of God. Here's one highlight I remember.
You know that great story about Jesus and the prostitute who gives him water where Jesus disperses a group ready to stone her. It's a great story. Unfortunately, the evidence is clear that Jesus never said it, because it only appears in later manuscripts. Buy the book.

Start with Genesis. Let's be honest, it's a mess. Plants before sun, as an example.
Also, who did Adam and Eve's child marry? Or don't we want to know?
How did Noah get kangaroos on the ark? What about sloths?
There's quite a lot of smiting as well, which seems odd.

It's not so much the contradictions in the Bible itself that gets me, it's the contradictions by those who insist that one live their life solely by what the Bible says.
For instance, the admonition against homosexuality which is in Leviticus, also commands that you not eat pork or shellfish, wear mixed fabrics and stone your neighbor to death if they work on the Sabbath. So how do you explain the devout Christian who wore cotton-poly blend while mowing his lawn on Sunday after he ate a ham sandwich? At least he's not porking his neighbor! Gawd love 'em!

The biggest contradictions, in my opinion, surround the birth of Jesus. One book says shepherds were present another says wise men were present. One book says Mary and Joseph were from Nazareth another says they were from Bethlehem. You can find more contradictions at evilbible.com. Check it out. Peace.

The claim that God is a god of love, forgiving, etc. - when in Leviticus, he's got rules allowing men to buy their rape victims, and allowing parents to sell their children, and advocating the execution of disobedient children. Plus in Judges, you've got God ordering genocides and mass carnage.

The story of the creation of the world appears to have been written twice. The two stories were then amalgamated into one, but they occasionally contradict one another.
