I'm a cat person. Why do some people think men with cats must be gay?

I find it so funny that some people say a man with a cat is gay. Have you heard this before? I have heard it from different sources and different ages. It just sounds so silly. I'm a cat person. I'm a guy. I'm not gay. Yet I have come across people that think I'm gay because I own a cat. My cat is a male and he is getting quite upset with all this gay talk. He wants everyone to know that he is strait.

I'm not here to try and prove to people I'm strait thats not my point. I'm seriously trying to find out where this silly idea comes from? What are the reasons behind thinking someone is gay because he owns a cat?

No I'm not worried about if people think I'm gay. I'm just trying to find the connection on why some people think this way about men with cats.

I'm not sure about that dominating idea. I have my cat trained to respond just like a dog would. I snap my fingers and he comes. I say shoo and he leaves me alone. So I'm not sure about cats not being dominated. When I chase him and catch him he just caves and doesn't fight back. That doesn't come across as very dominating.

Cats have always had a perception of femininity surrounding them. In French, which oddly assigns gender to words, cats are female and dogs male.

I guess the idea is that a guy that owns a cat is more attune to a feminine side -- thus more likely to be gay.

Simplistic and rather idiotic belief in this day-and-age.

I think that concept is falling to the wayside though. Cat ownership now exceeds that of dogs and the fastest growing segment of cat owners is single men. Cats are making great low-maintenance urban pets for them. They are the perfect pet for apartments and small condos.

And chicks dig cats.

i saw a program about cats one night and they said the reason most males do not like cats is because they can not be dominated over, and i think that some people look at men that likes cats as being weak in their sexuality, they think that males should be the dominate in any type of relationships and if they are not then they are "GAY" which is so stupid

NO WAY! Men that have cats are neat. I'm glad to see that males like cats, too. Many people have associated cats with women, and get really surprised when they see a man with a feline. Keep up the good work!

Because people are ignorant. I have never thought guys who had cats were gay. In fact it made me like them more cuz I am a cat person. after all, who wants to be with a guy who hates cats, if I like them so much and want one around at all times?

I love male cat people!

Have you ever been to a cat show? Hate to say it, but I've seen some pretty flaming cat breeders and judges. That could be where some of it comes from.

On the whole, guys who like cats are awesome...secure, confident, and generally appreciative of the finer things in life.

That's just stupid. So you prefer one type of animal over another. That determines your sexuality??? No... People just say that because they have small brains and because you normally see woman with cats and men with dogs. That's just, like a stereotype people have created. And since 90% of people in this world worry about what others think, men don't get cats because theyre worried of what people will say behind their backs. Who cares??? You know your straight, forget about all those people with room temperature IQ's.

NO, it is not gay to be a man and love cats i think it is very cute for men to love them. I love cats too and horses so it is more then fine to love cats so no you are no gay people how say u r will they r for saying that to u!

I've been wondering that myself. I personally think it's silly. Maybe it's because since a lot of men are tough that they should have dogs. But what about the really tough masculine guys that own small dogs?

I think most men are intimidated by cats. They don't "relate". They would prefer a dog who will play and fetch and do what that want and cats don't give a damn...testostrone spill on isle five!!!!

I'm a cat lover myself and so is my hubby; they are our children. All the males in my family love cats. So....go kiss your girlfriend while you pet the puss!

I have the same problem, but, believe it or not, I'm a dog person. I only have a cat cause the Landlord won't let me have one!!!Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the little guy!!!
