Come, tell me your single-use kitchen gadget beef! Is it the pineapple slicer? The apple corer? The electric can opener? Is it Jamie Oliver's new ceramic ball shaker that performs only one function of a mortar and pestle, and none of the others... at twice the price?

For me, the most useless was the Juicer. I've only used it twice, and that was because I thought I'd done it wrong the first time! I tried juicing some fruit, and finished up with a machine full of pulp and a dribble of juice anywhere but in the jug, so I gave it up as a bad job and it's just been sitting there looking at me ever since - and that was two years ago ! ! !

I have an apple corer at the back of a drawer that hasn't been used for ages, and there's a plastic thing for making mini pasties that has never been used, it was a freebee and I've no idea why it's not been thrown out. One thing I would never consider buying is that Jamie Oliver thingy, if something can't do more than one job there's no room for it in my kitchen.

We have a small, battery operated whisk that you are supposed to use to put froth on coffee, hpt chocolate etc.
Its chuffing useless!! takes about 12 batteries to whizz one coffee! I give up, it just sits and looks pretty now!
Also in my kitchen (it has to be said, i have a kitchen full or gadgets) I have a steamer i have used maybe 5 times (well worth £50) a George Foreman Grill that i used twice to do bacon on, realised what a pain they are to clean and stashed it away (goodbye £65) and a slow cooker, which i had a love affair with that lasted 3 months, now it sits looking pretty (buh-bye that £20 sheet)
I should really stop buying new gadgets!!!!

I have a square butter thingy that spreads butter onto corn on the cob, I used it once got butter all over the place (apart from the corn on the cob)

I bought it at a kitchen gadget party, because the host gave me too many glasses of wine and I felt that I had to buy something! This was the least expensive item.

A Baker's docker...

cylindrical prongs on a handle (not unlike handle on a date stamp), which is jabbed into biscuits/cookies before baking...nothing a good old fashioned FORK cannot do!!!

P.S. Chef Nas I must admit to using the docker initially, then when it 'disappeared' in the drawer, resorted to using a fork for my cookies. When it reappeared didn't bother. However, the garlic press I bought does everything it says on the tin (TV mini survey) Zyliss (Swiss) retains the husk, just extracts the meat. Has hole-punch addition to clean out the perforations. Wonderful!!

Have to agree with Jenta Men: Pizza cutter, the poor man's chain saw...never could draw a straight line anyway...lethal or what??!!

I rarely buy gadgets but have been given them in the past (people know I like to cook) I think the most useless thing I've ever been given was a mandoline. It was the most dangerous too and I was always afraid of using it. I truly feel more in control when I use a knife for slicing and a regular stand up grater for grating.

The Jamie Oliver ceramic ball shaker. Takes all the joy out of taking your anger out on the herbs/spices you're crushing.

Toasters too, they burn your toast - =x

That's a tough one. I have a lot of stuff that most other people hate, like stick blenders or food processors or crockpots. I use those regularly. But I'd have to say my least used one is a waffle iron I bought my husband. We used it once in the last two years!

man, you people have lots of kickin' gadgets I'd love to get my hands on. that coffee frother for one. ****, send that thing to me. you can make all sorts of foams and froths with that, it's not just for coffee. the pastry docker. I know how useful those things can be, especially when you're doing loads of pastries. I used to be a pastry cook, and never took the time to buy one. I still need to. the salad spinner. it's very useful if you're doing alot of lettuce, and so that you don't harm your lettuce. my most useless thing would probably be the god damn garlic press. I hate that thing. whatever it craps out surely isn't garlic. I've got a knife and a cutting board.
