Someone once mentioned that mine looked like a label to a coffee tin. I think he was a coffee fan.

I think so. I see certain avatars and I think, oh, they're not asking a serious question they're just trying to get a rise out of me. Other times the same person asks a similar question but their avatar is different and I feel comfortable responding. Weird huh! The same can be said about a person's on screen name. Those with characters I can't interpret, or that are in say Chinese or something, I don't even look at their question.

Hmm...think they might do, yes. I've had people get really quite offended and huffy about the Satan-suit; just last week I contacted someone who'd made a point I'd never heard before, because I wanted to know more. Got a mail back, saying "Why should I cast my pearls before swine, so you could twist my words?". I was like "OK, you do realise I'm not the ACTUAL Devil, right?"

On the other hand, one of my best pals in Y!A said he first noticed me cos I had a "really cool avatar", so I guess they do have an impact, yeah.

I haven't noticed any difference in the way that people react to me since I changed mine from a Yahoo avatar to this one.

Sometimes the dissonance between an angry-looking avatar and a non-angry question throws me for a moment, and I wonder if the person is being sarcastic...similarly when there's a wide-eyed smiley avatar and an angry-sounding question or answer.

The grey profiles sometimes make me wonder if those aren't multiple accounts that someone hasn't bothered to personalize.

I think so. The avatars do make an impression on me. In particular I find it disconcerting when someone's avatar is wearing an angry expression, and especially when they are asking the question... Nice to see you back as Pangel :)

Abetterfate: Well that's interesting:) I stick to the horrid gray profile, cos I consider the thoughts to be the important thing :)
Well, that, and because I changed my avatar to look more like me, but the new one won't replace the old one for some reason...

Pangel,
I do not know about others but uit will NEVER change my feelings about you. You are a wonderful lady who cares about others. That will certainly not change just because the Avatar changed. Have a great evening!
Thanks,
Eds

PS... I have not yet seen Lokasenna's New Avatar. I hope I recognize her. Did she change the hairstyle?

I think so. They are our book covers, so to speak. Names too, of course.

I find I'm more inclined to believe someone with a motorcycle avatar than a cartoon - when in the Motorcycles room. Ditto cats for cats (hence my new face since that's where I'm spending most of my time).

I think it is easier to recognize people. Personally, I find it is far easier to recognize someone that does not use one of the standard Yahoo! Avatars. That is why I do not use a Yahoo! Avatar. I find that I am more likely to click on a question that someone I recognized has asked.

Some of them more than others. Ultimately it is where the person behind the avatar is coming from that counts for me.

i noticed some people liked a certain black and white monkey,

serious answer,
yes it does make a difference, i've done "expiriments" and compared data with some other users who've done expiriments

only conclusion i have is an avatar leads to more answers and potential emails, including hate email
