When most people say "God", they are referring to the Jewish/Christian/Muslim God. "YHWH", "Yahweh", "Jehovah", or "Allah"-----all the same. The other "gods" are gods that were around before the world became monotheistic and Christianity took over. All the old Greek and Roman gods were "banned" or forgotten. Except for Hindus, only a small percentage of people (Wiccans, pagans) still worship ancient gods. The common theory is that these old gods were not real, or were demonic spirits, or were created by the one true God to join in worshipping Him also. Some people think that all these gods are just small parts of the one true god, but that is a form of pantheism. A lot of the old gods were actually parts of nature like the sun, moon, earth, sea, or emotions, like love, or common human passions like intoxication or war. But Christians, Jews and Muslims alike say to worship the one Who created all these things. Don't worship His creation.

If you go back to the beginning there are really two logical alternatives for the origin of the universe.
Impersonal, accident or Personal, purpose
An impersonal cosmic accident is scientifically impossible. The belief is that all the time, space, matter, and energy of the universe comes from highly compacted nothing. This nothing heats up and explodes and overides all antimatter to create matter and the heat of fusion creates the elements. Given enough time everything evolved into being. This theory comes from science and is completely unscientific. Most evolutionists hold to some kind of impersonal, chance beginning.
The alternative is a personal beginning that implies a personality of intelligence behind all that is. We live in a finely tuned universe that would be more logical to infer that it was designed or engineered to run the way it does as a complete life support system on Earth. This implies a Grand Designer of engineer (personality) and derives the discipline known as Theology -theos meaning god -ology-meaning study of.
The question asks what kind of personality could order such a wonder. The conclusions in a nutshell boil down to and infinite-personal-creator.
To simplify it a little more is that the God of the Bible completely identifies Himself as this same personality. There are lots of beliefs that are based on other stories of creation that are really very unscientific and fall more under the catagory of folklore. The Biblical position correlate with what we see in nature and is therefore more substantiated and leads to more credibility to be inferred as the more logical belief system.
The real debates come in how we interpret the information which depend on your own personal belief and the logic of it.

All things are faith. Primitive religions saw the divine in everything, all things had life energy, therefore all things had their own gods. Some people disillusioned with the modern world and indoctrinated by a questionably intentioned media want to go back to a more primitive time and accept ancient religions as their belief system. Hinduism covers all aspects, from the many, to the few, to the One, yet the One is supreme and above all else; the One is the encapsulation of all others. Most of the world believes in the one God and interestingly enough, for all their conflicts and differences, it its the same God, the God of Moses and Abraham, the unknown God, that is the center of the prophetic religions. It all comes down to faith, my faith is in The One. All other divisions are arbitrary.

Everyone reaches a point in their life where they ask a similar question. Usually it is more like "is there a god?" I personally believe in one God (monotheistic) as apposed to more than one (polytheistic). I believe this way because nothing has really given me reason to believe there is more than one.
Most of the time (at least in my experience) I find those that believe in multiple gods have a hard time truly distinguishing them. There is an overlap in what their god has done or can do. Or there is a conflict in how their gods operate.
As a Christian I believe in one God that manifested in three distinct persons (father, son, holy spirit).

I believe in the one God -- the God of Abraham, Isaac and Joseph, as I've heard it said.
I believe in God, the Creator. I believe in His Son. I believe in the God of the Bible.
Other gods are man made. Man wants things to be tangible, things they can see, proof of existence. That's why they made gods. You can't see Almighty God, therefore, man doesn't trust Him. They would rather trust in something they can see.
Then, there's some whose god is money and power. That is idol worshipping just as much as the Hindu gods.
Anything you put before God is idol worshipping.

-I am sorry for your experience. I wish you good luck in your recovery.
-Many people believe in a God. To them there particular God is the only true one. It is a matter of faith, and that they do not consider other points of view.
-Belief is not required. You need not pick one over the other. Go carefully, consider what you want or need from religion, or if you need it at all.
-Good luck

Are you implying that many gods actually exist and that you just choose the one you like? How's that make the rest of them feel? Wouldn't you want to go for the top dog?
Maybe you are just saying that there are many religions to choose from and you just pick the one that suits your preference. But that just suggests that none of them are really true; that's just like picking a flavor of ice cream.
I suggest you seek out the true God, if such a One exists. If you are earnest in this, if you look for what is true and not what you prefer, then this God will meet you.

I have read your profile, first let me tell you truth, there are more then one God, but there is only One True God.
Moses worship the God Satan, prince of this world, Satan has authority over the physical world.
The Prophets worshiped LORD God (Jesus), LORD God has authority over all spirits and angels, including Satan.
Jesus worshiped Father God Who art in heaven, Father God is the God which created everything with his Word.
LORD God, made everything that was made, and is referred to in Genesis 2.and John 1.
Father God created everything with his word, LORD God (Jesus) made everything with his hands.
Satan God would steal knowledge from Father God and LORD God and also their names and make men believe he was God.
To keep Satan from stealing knowledge the Holy Ghost was created by Father God.
Your spirit has been defeated, and aother spirit has taken over your life, you must overcome your sins as well as the 7 other spirits.
Ask Father God to restore your spirit as the dominant life force, in the name of Jesus, and it will be done for you.
Do you believe ?

Wow, you seem to be an amazing person.
I commend you for not giving up, but continuing.
There is only one true God as brought out in the Bible. Psalms 83:18, Isaiah 42:8 and many more.
But people tend to believe in false gods, or to make their own gods for that matter. The worship of idols. Surprisingly, some people even view ther money or fame as their God and only source of happiness.
