No, it depends on the Music and what the lyric is about, I'm a Muslim and I've been a Michael Jackson fan for many years. i listen to pop music everyday. usually it's a sin if there's a womans voice in it and\or if it is about lust and sex and stuff like that.

I am in Germany and I have met many Muslims (including my boyfriend) that knows way too much about American culture even though they had never been there.
This means that they have listened to a majority of American music. It doesn't help either that here in Germany that no matter where you go, they are playing American music!
Music is not a sin in Islam. However, I think that most Muslims think that some songs shouldn't be listened to, because of the sexual content, but that doesn't mean that they are banned. Just turn off the radio or flip the channel.
I think many fundamentalist Muslims (terrorists) are saying this, but it's not true. Music is not a sin in Islam.

All Music is Ok, As long as you can control yourself and don't get carried by the "Sexual emotions" it reveals, if it is this kind of music.
Al Wahabis - with all due respect - is one of the worst Islamic movements ever, it is trying to grap my country about 80 or 90 years back, to be like KSA whre music is a sin, and prayers are compulsory by the police. But we're fighting, we'll keep fighting to remain Egypt as Egypt.
Don't listen to Al wahabi Scholars.

Salafee Muslims are very strict...they don't listen to music with song...they listen to acuponte i'm sorry i don't know how to spell the word better but when they sing with they're mouth and make music by mouth. i listen to classical music for two reasons
1 no harraam{sinful}lyrics
2. it is relaxing
i listen to Arabic which mostly just always talks about love. my love this and my love that... plus it is my culture. we are forbidden put anything in our lives in which could astray us from our chosen path...this includes people too. like if they are drug users, are alcoholics, mean spirited people in general, fornicate...just for examples. because these things in reality can also lead us astray. i personally do not want to go astray...and the video's on tv can become appealing to us and we would fall from God if we choose to do everything that is appealing to us.
i used to listen to the American music...rap and i found myself going astray...i had to do something about it. i do now listen to R&B...i find that i like Ashanti and Beyonce...Ashanti more though...they talk about feeling and what they have been through...a few songs are a bit much but they are far and few in between...oh and i love love love Alica Keys!

The thing is this. I still enjoy music and I don't think its a Sin!! (well in my case anyway) i mean its not as if i've done anyting wrong! i listen to all types of music as well as spiritual islamic music and etc, so i think as long as youre not doing anyting wrong i dont think it matters! I;ve even considered music as a career but i thought about it and i decided to have it as a hobbie nothing too serious.

This is a widely debated topic amongst even Muslim scholars. My personal feelings on the issue are that as long as you don't take the message of the music to heart, then listen to whatever you want.
