Well, it would really be best to take her to the Vet, but 24 hours after an accident, if she's behaving pretty normally, it sounds like she's probably okay. Here's some more information.

Poor baby! I'm sorry your dog got hit. In my opinion, sometimes you can't see or tell if the dog has internal injuries or not. Just to be on the safe side, and for the welfare of your dog, I really think a vet needs to see him ASAP. Most vet office will work out payment plans with you. I would call your vet, explain what happened and what your financial situation is, and see if they will let you make payments on the bill. I hope your dog is ok, and hasn't had any serious damage. I also think you will be alot more relieved, knowing he is being checked out from a vet and treated if need be. I know I would, if it was my dog. Good Luck! I really hope everything turns out for the best! Have a Happy Easter!

I think taking her to the vet would be the best idea. She may seem fine now, but there may be something wrong with her that can't be detected. Taking her to the vet, even for a checkup, could save her if something is seriously wrong. Even if there isn't, it's just better to be sure. My dog died a few months ago and the same sort of thing happened. She had stopped eating and she was shaking, but we figured it was just a cold or something so we waited. She was fine for the next couple of days and getting better, or so it seemed. She died soon after. It'll be better to take her and have nothing wrong with her so you can at least be sure she's ok.

Take her to the vet to be sure. When a person becomes a pet owner they realize that there will be costs associated with owning a pet. If your mom is unwilling to foot the bill for a visit to the vet for her dog, perhaps she shouldn't own one. The dog would be better off with a loving family who is willing to spend the money to take care of their pet.
How would you feel if tomorrow your dog passed away due to the car accident knowing that the dog could have lived if it had been seen and treated by a vet?
If you can't afford an animal, please do that animal a favor and don't adopt it.

Of immediate concern is your dog and she needs to see the vet... already. But I am also concerned with the fact that the dog was out and lose so she could get hit by a car. You need to take immediate measures to insure that this never happens again. If the dog is okay this time and she should happen to get hurt again you may not be as lucky. Keep her safe, please. Molly is counting on you.

These people who are saying "take her to the vet" are pet lovers fanatics. Which is good. However, not being able to afford a vet is not a good reason not to have a pet. For peace of mind, you can take the doggy to the vet.
But come on, it's been 24 hours. A dog likes to do a few things... eat, drink, poop... and play... if the dog is not alright, you will know. When it goes to the bathroom, check its droppings and look for blood. Basic observation especially after this long, will probably be fine.
The vet is just going to charge you a bunch of money and tell you your dog is ok.

I tend to think you should take her to the vet, at the very least, the vet could give her a once over and maybe some pain pills to help her with the bruising. If anything is broken or damaged, the sooner it is addressed, the better. If you can't convince your mom, keep a very close eye on her. If she starts to act funny, don't wait... get her to the vet asap .

My german shepherd was hit by a car several years ago. I thought for sure he was killed. There was a loud bang when the car hit him. My poor dog just limped away from the scene whimpering. He limped for a few days afterwards. The vet said he was just bruised. Dogs are tough! Hope your dog is 100%, and stays that way for many more years.

TAKE HER TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY! Would your mother not take one of you to the Emergency Room if you were hit by a car, but looked "ok"? As responsible pet owners (which you and your sister seem to be!) you have the duty to make sure your Molly is alright. You and your sister want to do the right thing, which is admirable. Good luck.

Take her to the vet.
Even though she may be acting fine right now, she may still have damage that needs to be taken care of. HBC is a very traumatic incident. Ideally she needs to have x-rays and bloodwork done. At a normal veterinarian this will probably run you $200-300. At the very least have a vet look her over.
